Guest generallee
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? ive seen it before....had a nubbin buck under my stand for 10 or 15 minutes one night, and he kept sneezing......yes sneezing, and then would lick his nose. I thought he was gonna hear me laughing but he never did. It was fun to watch
Bond
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? Because they don't have a finger to pick their nose.... Usually it's to lick their nose so they can smell something better but i've got a lot of trail cam pics where it looks exactly like they are doing it just to mock me. Tominator
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? Pretty sure they moisten their nose to help with smell.
billkay
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? It's usually to gain extra scent running through their oflactory sensors.
rockefeller66
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? I would say it is to wet there nose to try to smell something better.
hutchies
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? I think most of these guys have hit it on the nose with the fact that they are trying wet there nose to keep it from drying out and them not being able to smell as well. VtBowhunter
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? why do humans do it? To wet your lips........maybe they do it to keep the edges of their mouth from drying out.
Guest DropTineOutdoors
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? I've seen bucks lick there noses most often during the rut, when they are concentrated on scent checking for does. I think the guys above are right when they say that wetting their nose somehow hightens their sense of smell for a short time. Now, just sticking their tongues out, is a different story. This is seen most often during the firearm season when deer are being pushed around too much and they are just plain tired! Or during the rut when bucks are running does all day long. Again, just plain worn out! This is why alot of guys love to hunt near water during the rut!........Just my experiences. I would love to hear other ideas! wtnhunt
Re: Why do deer stick out there tounge? [ QUOTE ] Pretty sure they moisten their nose to help with smell. [/ QUOTE ] Yep. Deer do in fact keep their nostrils moistened to increase the efficiency of their sense of smell.
