Guest Mudshack
I am going from my handloads (shot for almost 20 years) to a factory load. Which "off the shelf" shells do you suggest? I like the specs on the Hornady 165gr. Boattail Spire Point Light Mag - 2465 fps @ 200yds 2226 ft-lbs @ 200yds. What else is out there? VtBowhunter
Re: Which .308 Factory Load? What does this have to do with bowhunting? This needs to be moved to the Rifles and accessories room.
rockefeller66
Re: Which .308 Factory Load? I would say move this, those guys in other rooms will be glad to answer your question, I personally have no experience with a rifle, they aren't legal for deer here in IA. AJ
Re: Which .308 Factory Load? The Hornady Light Mag is very good ammo. What type of gun are you shooting it in? They don't recommend shooting the Light Mag or Federal High Energy in some fo the semi auto guns as the gas system is regulated for standard ammo. I have had good success with Remington Core Lokt, Hornady Custom, Hornady Light Mag, and Federal Premium. Match the bullet to your quarry and you will be good to go. If you are target shooting, the Federal Gold Medal Match 168 gr HPBT Match ammo is very hard to beat. It is outstanding in consistancy and accuracy. Unfortunately, the bullet is not any good for hunting. The bullet acts like a FMJ instead of a true hollow point. But for paper punching, its some extremely sweet stuff! Guest Mudshack
Re: Which .308 Factory Load? I am shooting a Browning BLR Model 81 (straight stock lever action). From the ballistics charts I have looked at, the Hornady Light Mag (165gr) looks like the hands down favorate. This gun has always been my Whitetail Deer rifle. But I like to do some friendly competition with my brother who shoots a .243. Consistancy is the biggest thing.
too_pointer
Re: Which .308 Factory Load? I am going to try the lite mag also in my 25-06. It's a single shot so there shouldn't be any problems with it. Good luck with it too_
