VtBowhunter
Re: Lets hear it! A field with over 20 deer in it DURING the season, lol.......that never happens. By the time the season starts the deer scatter.

tp793
Re: Lets hear it! most exciting would be tagging out for the first time with two does and a wallhanger 7 pt. weirdest would be having a coon come down the tree 2 ft away from me in the pitch black..(scared the poop outta me)
M00N
Re: Lets hear it! The most exciting thing this season was shooting my deer and getting to watch the others in the herd run up to my father and him shoot one out of the same herd. The weirdest thing would been the shot someone did on opening morning before legal hunting time proceed by myself almost getting run over by a coyote fleeing the shot in the dark. I had no clue what was running full speed up to me had to shine my flashlight on it at the last moment to get it to veer off. It was also weird seeing deer still rutting when I went out for rifle season. First year in 7 years that I've went rifle hunting and saw bucks still hot on does. rockefeller66
Re: Lets hear it! wathced a bald eagle attack and kill a roosted turkey one morning! I was watching what looked to be a hawk fly way away then come at me and I realized it was indeed a bald eagle and I thought that was cool. Then it flew into the timber about 60 yards from me and dove into a dark spot in the trees and one turkey flew off. I though it missed its attack but later when looking for the doe I thought I hit but missed that morning my brother found a dead hen right where that turkey had been! It was still wet blood and hot! It was the weirdest thing I have ever seen!
wtnhunt
Re: Lets hear it! Most exciting was watching 4 bucks on the field at the same time and then watching them fight on and off for a good length of time with my daughter during the October youth hunt and then her shooting the dominant buck which was also the biggest of the bucks that we saw. Weirdest, was the activity in general this year. It was about the slowest I have ever seen on my property. In a place where I generally see deer every afternoon probably 90 percent of the time I hunt that field, this year I went probably 80 percent of the time this year without seeing any deer. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Lets hear it! I videoed myself shooting a doe. It was much more difficult than I thought it would be. Took me several tries before I pulled it off. Next year it'll be the 160 class buck kill on video!
Guest DropTineOutdoors
Re: Lets hear it! I also filmed myself take a doe this season. Early archery season on the ground and it was only a 5 yd shot. Unfortunately she was so close that she just stepped out of the frame as I let the arrow fly. But it still made for great video and was very exciting!
vagobbln
Re: Lets hear it! Albino doe Albino skunk - locked and loaded I might add! Barred Owl - watched him suck down a mouse under my stand Gray Fox - sitting on the ground we stared each other down from about 2 ft.! I flinched first as I was unsure of his intentions. Sometimes the deer I saw just seemed incidental.

Tominator
Re: Lets hear it! Weirdest would have to be the owl that used me for protection from about 20 crows. He flopped down behind me and sat there looking at me not 6 feet away. Most exciting, would have to be shooting a buck after 4 years of passing little bucks. Guest finsnfur
Re: Lets hear it! i was using my grunt to scare 3 crows off my downed doe 60 yds away. 10 minutes later the crows return with their friends and i grunt again to get them to leave . 10 minutes later a 'spike' comes flying up to see what was going on. the wierd thing was - i totally forgot i was using the grunt to scare the crows. i was so concerned about getting the crows off my deer that when the spike arrived in a hurry i was totally surprised. Guest Huntin_Cop
Re: Lets hear it! The weirdest thing I saw in the woods this season was, what appeared to me, a doe chasing and attempting to breed another doe! I didn't know deer could turn gay! But after close examination through my binos, I realized it was a buck without antlers. He had alot of body mass, over 200 lbs easy, but his coat was shinney and his back was straight, not saging. This told me that he was around 4-6 years of age. If I knew for certain he was over 6 years old I'da taken him, despite not having a rack. Around here, if a buck makes it to age 5, it's a miracle, and a 6 year old deer is definitly a trophy no matter his rack size (if he has one or not)! hunter_mike
Re: Lets hear it! Most exciting: Shooting 2 does in one night with my bow on New Years eve. Wierdest: Found a deer fetus on blood trail of a doe. Later when I found the deer (gut shot) her uterus was hanginout split open.

Rhino
Re: Lets hear it! [ QUOTE ] I'm not tellin [/ QUOTE ] If memory serves, you already did Steve. That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard of. The weirdest thing I recall seeing this season was a button buck mount a doe, twice not 50 yards from my stand. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it with my own eyes. The season isn't over yet so who knows what might happen before the end of this month. longislandhunter
Re: Lets hear it! Towards the end of the bow season here we had some snow, not much but enough to clearly show tracks, so I went out to still hunt around my hunting area simply looking for tracks so I could get a good idea where the deer were hanging out. I was following this one set of fresh deer tracks when I came upon a set of mountain lion tracks that came out of some thick brush and then followed the same set of deer tracks that I was following. I got in touch with my the local DEC officer, who happens to my neighbor and friend, and who I work with from time to time on game violation investigations, and told him what I had seen. We have heard rumors over the years, and have had other people report such sightings, some of them actually claiming to have seen the big cat, but this was my first encounter. The official theory is that a few years ago someone in the area was illegally keeping a mountain lion as a pet and it must've gotten to big for them to safely keep so they simply let it loose in the large expanses of pine barren forest that make up the area.
