New guns - had too do it - I was weak.

I was in Cabelas last week with a friend and saw the Remington 700BDL STainless- 300SAUM on clearance for $469. I had to buy it. After finding out that there were deals to be had - I ordered another from Southeastern Gun Shop in Georgia in 7mm-saum for the pittance of $399. Don't really need them but for an average of $435 for a700 Stainless - how can you go wrong.

Re: New guns - had too do it - I was weak.

I have seen this across the board with a few distributers. Probably due to lack of sales. Even though the SAUM were first, Winchester went on a much heavier advertising blitz with their WSM, WSSM line. I have rarely seen SAUM ads. It appears there is little room for two short magnum MFR's. I'm wating for the prices to drop a little more and I will probably take the plunge as well; the SAUM's seem to be similar in performance to the WSM's.

Reloading makes them very reasonalble to shoot. Supposedly what I was told is that Remington is only going to chamber the saum in the model 7, the 300 in the 673 guide gun and in the Titanium. The 700 BDL is being discontinued so they have been liquidating the supply. Over the counter ammo is difficult to get and available through Midway, Natchez and Nosler -- very rare in gun shops but the price seems to be inline with other ammo in the $30-$35 per box range. I moslty handload so had not been buying much factory ammo so I have been in relative shock at what the cost is today.
