HarvDog
Tip Of The Week: A Clean Drag If your next big game animal falls in a particularly dirty area, take a few moments to sew the hide flaps from the abdomen shut with twine or small rope after field dressing. Doing so will keep the animal's body cavity much cleaner while your dragging it out of the woods. It only takes a few minutes to do and is worth the extra effort. Does anyone do this? rockefeller66
Re: Clean Drag Tip I haven't had a problem with having to dress an animal in a dirty area, we use the 4 wheelers to get the deer most of the way out too.
jgbennett6
Re: Clean Drag Tip Thats a great idea, however depending on where you are hunting.. make sure to open those flaps as soon as you can.... the quicker meat is cooled the better:)

Tominator
Re: Clean Drag Tip Nope, can't see doing that Harv. Garden hose on the end of the drag seems to work just fine for cleaning out the cavity.

Chrud
Re: Clean Drag Tip We just load our animal into the cart for the wheeler. Good tip though. We usually wash ours out if we get the chance.
elkoholic
Re: Clean Drag Tip Obviously most of you do not hunt far from vehicular access. Even though I do not sew the cavity shut, I do try to limit the size of the opening when gutting the critter if there is going to be a long drag on bare ground. There is no way a water hose will wash off the crud that collects after a long drag out of the woods. Most of my deer have been taken over 1/4 mile from vehicle access (legal access anyway) and some have involved a drag of several miles, and I can attest to the amount of dirt, pine needles and other crud that can end up inside the body cavity when there is no snow cover. I might give this tip a try, after all, how heavy can a needle and thread be?
