Guest OldBuckhunter
Was reading Bluelks thread on lapping gun bore. Since I'm new at ML, I want to make sure I do everything right on my new omega, Have or did you guys do this procedure? I try to check things out before I dive in. You folks have given me a lot of info to go over. I'm almost set on want I want to do. Thanks again for your help!!
EIGHTPOINT
Re: Lapping new ML I bought an Encore a few years back, never lapped the barrel and she still puts impressive groups out there at 100 & 200 yards. Every gun is different though and if lapping makes your gun a better shooter then do it.
AJ
Re: Lapping new ML I do not lap barrels unless they are lapped prior to cutting to length. I do not recommend or suggest others do so unless the gun absolutely will not shoot and there is nothing to loose.
Ohiobucks
Re: Lapping new ML I just did it to mine last month. My ML is about 8-9 years old though. It made a huge difference, loading is a lot easier, accuracy is right there, and a ton easier to clean. I followed the steps in Bluelks chapters and couldn't be happier. Very easy to do. VTbowman
Re: Lapping new ML [ QUOTE ] I am a rookie to this Muzzleloading, so what is lapping your muzzleloader exacty? [/ QUOTE ] There is a tutorial in Bluelks ML page here in the room. It covers it pretty well. Basically removing any burrs and sharp spots on the lands and groove, the rifling, in your barrel with lapping compound. Lapping compound is a fine grit paste used to clean and polish metal parts. too_pointer
Re: Lapping new ML I followed bluelks instructions and lapped my Encore before I even shot it. Don't know how much difference it made, but it cleans up great and the accuracy is fine. too_
Guest OldBuckhunter
Re: Lapping new ML Thanks for the replys. I believe I'll try it. I don't think it will hurt anything. I'm new at ML and trying to learn everything I can. I try to take good care of my guns and other gear as best I can.
DannoBoone1
Re: Lapping new ML 1) Give it a good cleaning 2) Try a few different loads 3) Check out ANYTHING else that may effect accuracy. 4) THEN go ahead and hand lap. Why "fix" it if it ain't broke???
