Swamphunter
I want to get a program that I can make maps of my hunting land and plan out trails and stand szites and such. I want to be able to add and remove co-ordinates so I can be very precise. This will be used in combination with my GPS. What do you guys use? I'm not talking satellite imagery, I use Terraserver and Google Earth for that. Thanks
dogdoc
Re: Need a program. i don't know if this is what you are looking for but you might check out www.buckspy.com they make a a program where you can add stand sites, GPS coordinates and you can add pics to each one. You can also organize your game cam pics and record hunting data and harvest data. I don't think you can make maps though but you could add topo pics to it. Hoyt03
Re: Need a program. I have maptech terrain navigator. Its a computer program(I only have the PA one) but it has all your topo maps for the entire state. I add my gps coordinates and add symbols and trails and everything, its very neat and fun to use. I also got a GIS certificate while in college and learned how to use Arcview to make maps of my hunting areas. They may have this program for your state, but the software might be pricey

[/ QUOTE ] I do that also. This works very well with pre season scouting. It helps me plan out the best use for my land. I have used a program before but it was at a college and have not seen the same program out there. It was about 5 or 6 years ago also. jnrbronc
Re: Need a program. I watched a show last night about a couple of boaters who disappeared on Lake Huron. The Coast Guard found the boat and there was a Garmin (?) GPS hand held on board. The missing people had been mapping and tracking their trip on the GPS. It had a nice screen with a map of the lake and locations they had entered in. I'm not sure of the accuracy but you might check to see if this is something a high end GPS could do for you. I don't own a GPS.

I have used them before, but wasn't sure if anyone had any recommendations.
elkoholic
Re: Need a program. I use Map Academy. Not sure if this is what you are looking for. You can download co-ordinates from your GPS and delete them as you like. Depending on your GPS you should be able to load the map into it, along with the way-points that you have added to the map. I am not sure of a program that will allow this on an aerial photograph, but you could print out the topo map, with added way-points, on a transparent sheet and place it over an aerial photo. You would need to make sure the co-ordinates on the map and the photo line up. I may have to give that a try.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Need a program. I use the same as Mountain Dragon.I get my coordinates off terraserver them plug them into the site above. They give pretty good aerial photos, and you can add texts to the maps. Thayer
Re: Need a program. I would say wait for the Buckspy upgrade mapping program...you can download a map, then plot all of your stand positions, camera locations, food plots, deer observations, deer harvests, and a whole bunch of other info using GPS coordinates. You could get started with the Buckspy advanced to get your data downloaded then use the upgrade to fine tune all of our information.
