Born2Hunt
Are the heavyweight loads that much better than copper plated loads that you can justify the cost associated with them?
AJ
Re: HEAVYWEIGHT VS. COPPER PLATED LEAD Performance wise, yes they are. They allow you to use a smaller shot size which will give you more downrange energy (since the smaller shot size is not affected by air resistance as much). It will give you a denser pattern since there are more pellets in your load. It will extend the range quite a bit over plain, copper plated, or nickel plated shot. Is it worth it? That depends on what you want. If you want to shoot all of your birds inside 30 yards, the answer is no. There is not any benefit when the shots are inside plain lead distances. inside 30 yards, there is no need for 3" magnums, coper plated lead, or special tight turkey chokes. Plain jane 2 3/4" magnums shot from a full choke will work just fine. Now, if you want to extend your effective killing range as far as possible, they are worth every cent. Combine the correct choke, shot size, payload, and shot type, you can reach out to 50+ yards and cleanly kill birds.
