Covehnter
What would you guys recommend planting that should help attract/hold turkeys through March, April, and May that can be planted b/t now and then. I was thinking rye or wheat of some kind. Just got the go ahead on ALOT of land that is used for farming, the fields are all mowed cotton stalks, plenty of equipment for putting the plots in. dogdoc
Re: Plot for Turkeys this is a map of the last average spring freeze date. If you wait until the last chance of freeze them i would recommend a planting of buckwheat---buckwheat is a quick seeding plant and the turkeys love the seed. Buckwheat also attracts a lot of insects which will make it attractive---it is susceptible to freeze out though. The other option is a late winter/early planting of oats. You could actually try planting some oats now. Turkeys love oat seeds and oats a somewhat cold tolerant so if you don't get a hard freeze you might get lucky and they will be producing seed heads early spring. good luck todd
