AJ
Yep, that's what it looks like. Unless they get a buyer for it, it closes March 31. U.S. Repeating Arms, which is owned by the Herstal Group, a Belgium company, has said for years that it was on the brink of closing the plant. They have had a big uphill battle for the past decade, trying to stay alive.

David_218
Re: winchester closing? I read, on another forum, that there would be NO more Model 70's or 94's manufactured. Don't know about their ammo.
David_218
Re: winchester closing? I am just wondering how long it will be before who ever buys out Winchester, moves it to Red China, and the folks, that worked at Winchester, lose their jobs. oo_buck
Re: winchester closing? Wonder what they'll do about servicing their products????? A lot of Wincherster's out there that will not have a company to back them anymore........ How does that work?
WaCoyote
Re: winchester closing? Kind of ironic. They kick the heck out of big green with just about every new cartridge they design from the .243 to the .270 to the WSM's and now they're closing. Thats really too bad to see a part of history die off like that. Guess big green gets the last laugh after all though, looks like they lose all the battles but will win the war. Olin which owns Winchester ammo makes the different cartridges, is not going out of business. Winchester guns are a completely different entity. They are the company on the bubble. Winchester gun company has been bounced around from numerous owners over the past decade or so.
WaCoyote
Re: winchester closing? Doesn't winchester itself design the new cartridges and guns that use them? 243 winchester, 270 winchester, all of the wsm's. Thats what I meant. If not, well I guess I did miss the boat. AJ
Re: winchester closing? Nope, Olin designed them. All Winchester guns does is manufacture guns. Cartridge development is from Olin. Winchester guns makes reamers that meet specs they get from Olin and chamber a new round. They are just gunsmiths and assemblers. Doc
Re: winchester closing? This is pretty bad news coming on the heels of the news that Ithaca Gun is now defunct as well. I hope this is not a trend. Does anyone understand what is causing these historical companies to finally go out of business? Are there any others that are on the verge of failure? Guest ronin
Re: winchester closing? Also, it is only the traditional guns, 94's etc, that are shutting down in CT. The modern rifles will all be imported.

plannerman
Re: winchester closing? I'm checking the couch cushions for spare change. How about the Realtree forum participants take up a collection and buy'em out! Sure wish I could win the lottery. What's the likelyhood of someone like say, TC Arms jumping in to save the '94? They made the jump to the semi-auto .22 so why not the lever, etc.. ?

Too many other gun manufactures on the market these days & I imagine its hard just surviving on ammo sales. That's all I've ever really thought to buy from Winchester, their ammo. bearcat
Re: winchester closing? I thought that the same company owns Browning Firearms and Winchester Firearms. I believe the Brownings are made in Japan now instead of Belgium. If The same parent company owns both Browning and Winchester, Then why don't the Japs that make Brownings start making Winchesters? Brownings are still of fine quality.
AJ
Re: winchester closing? They very well may. The only guns that are going away are the lever gun 1894. It has had a long life of 111 years. It's finally being laid to rest. The Model 70 is still going to be manufactured. Browning still has some guns made in Belgium. But Many of them are made in Japan. Think very few brownings are still made in Belgium. AJ any insight on how winchester plans to deal with warranty work on their firearms.
