Guest tyshe17
to thoes of yall that have been at this a lot longer than I have...how do you do this? I usually look at the target, come up with a guess. Then I look at the ground find my 20 yards and start counting to the target in 5 yard increments. I take these two numbers compare and go with what I feel is best after taking into account uphill/dowhill or if some of the ground is hidden between me and the target. I have heard mention of standing balanced opening your eyes, and you will be looking between 18-22 yards away. Does anyone do this? I have also heard talk of "braketing the target" both with bow sights, and binocs. Does anyone do this, and if so how is it suppose to work. thanks for the help. 3d starts for me this weekend with 2 shoots so i am pumped!!! VtBowhunter
Re: judging yardage I'll either look at the target and go with my gut, or I'll look to the ground, find 10, and count off in increments of 10 to the target.
Tony
Re: judging yardage i use 3 methods . gut instinct , find 20 then 10 yard blocks , and the half way method . if i can see the distance all the way to the target i use find 20 then 10 yard blocks. if im dealing with ravines and spans of distance then the half way method works for me.i only use gut instinct to get somewhat close then try to confirm it with another method. no MATTER WHAT do not second guess yourself. when you come up with a distance stick with it and committ to making a good shot . if you miss because of range thats ok. just realize where you made the mistake and go on to the next target. you can set targets out and place arrows at 5 yard intervals to see what 5 yards looks likt at 45 yards. this helps a lot when starting out.
