Guest Andrea
Okay........the other day I was sitting in my stand and I heard something that scared me. It was broad daylight but I couldn't see what it was because it was behind me thru the woods. It sounded like someone breaking old half-rotted tree limbs over their knee. Then it sounded like walking, but it didn't go far. Then it sounded like someone or something pounding the ground really hard 3 times. Then some more walking then nothing else. At first I thought it might be a person. But I would have heard it walk in and then leave. After I got down I looked for tracks but saw nothing. What in the world could have made that noise???? A buck???????

There's never been one spotted around that area. Ever. But who knows???? If I ever see one........I don't know what I'd do. It's illegal to shoot one. But if he chases me.....well......... DSGB
Re: Weird sounds The sounds you described reminds me of something I heard a few weeks ago. I was sitting in a tower stand that has windows on three sides. The back is covered. I heard a loud "crack" behind me and then "snap, snap-snap" and at first I thought it was two bucks fighting. It sounded a lot like rattling antlers. Then I heard a loud crash and a "thud". It was a rotten tree that had fallen over. It took out a smaller tree on the way down. Could this have been what you heard. When I heard the "thud" from the tree hitting the ground, it sounded a lot like a horse or cow stomping it's foot. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe...........but what would explain the walking sounds too?? It really sounded like a horse or man stomping his foot. But the breaking of the limbs was intentional and not falling. LOL......I had a BIG cypress tree crash to the ground the other day while I was hunting. Wind was pretty wicked that day. It fell across the road. I had to drive thru the ditch and thru the woods to get around it. Just glad it didn't happen close to me or I would have had to change my britches when I got home. Gator
Re: Weird sounds HG, just because a bear ain't never been spotted don't mean they ain't there. The area we hunted in Ocala had bears, took us a long time before we ever saw one. I know they will pull over scrub oaks, and eat the acorns off of them. Doc
Re: Weird sounds Actually, bears are pretty quiet. One thing that I have heard make that kind of racket was a moose. But that was a long ways north of you. What it really sounds like is someone constructing a ground blind or brushing out an area for a future treestand site. They may have completed their work and left already by the time you got over there. Doc
wtnhunt
Re: Weird sounds Have heard some unexplained sounds in the woods over the years. Maybe a rotten tree creaking and cracking getting ready to fall.
VTbowman
Re: Weird sounds I heard a big ole dead maple tree fall in little to no wind. Just decided it was time to go and it went. Boy did it go. I swear I though I was done for when that thing went down behind my tree stand but it sounded a bunch like you described. Its that or definately a BigFoot on vacation... Why else go down to your state...?? LOL
Canadian_Shooter
Re: Weird sounds im guessing it was a deer walking threw the woods mabye a buck scrappin an old dead tree and he might have seen you and the pounding might hoave been him stomping his hoof ...deer do that when they want you to move and give em a reason to run off...or it could have been an old hermit collecting wood for his fire
