Re: How Many tags does your state give out a year?

I have the lifetime license here in NY. Now I can only hunt the archery big game seasons due to my age, so I will get 1 either sex tag and 2 doe permits. That either sex tag will remain my buck tag until the late season. Then if I have to, I will shoot another doe. In my house, our doe permits are usually filled by regular season.

In Maine we get 1 tag which is bucks only unless you draw a doe tag, this includes M/L, rifle, bow. We do have an expanded archery zone though where you can purchase as many doe tags as you want at 10.00 each and 1 buck tag for 33.00. This zone is mostly right along the coast in heavily populated areas.

I believe in Georgia you get two buck tags, one of which must have four or more points on one side (some counties have more restrictions), and 12 doe tags.

In Alabama, you can kill two deer a day, but only one can be a buck.

In Va we have a total of 6 deer 3 bucks and 3 does or 4 does and 2 bucks or 1 buck and 5 does or 6 does and 0 bucks, we are allowed a maximum of 3 bucks, and we can buy special permit doe tags only if we run out on the main liscense

In north Dakota, I can purchase a bow tag over the counter, which is good for one deer, whitetail or mulie either sex and if lucky draw a rifle and muzzleloader tag, after the first and second drawing there are antlerless tags left over, this past season ND issued 145,000 plus tags, and there are a lot of left over doe tags, you can purchase as many you want for what ever units they are available, so if your lucky with the rifle and blackpowder drawing and with the bow tag a person can harvest three bucks, and does.

With an archery tag you get one tag for a buck or doe. With a gun, you get a buck tag (can be for a doe also if you apply for and get a Hunter's Choice) and two T-Zone tags. The T-Zone tags are for antlerless deer in certain zones. In those zones, they can be used on antlerless deer during any season, bow, gun, muzzleloader. You can usually buy bonus tags for does also.

Here in IL, you can apply for 2 gun tags, antlerless and either sex. You are allowed two bucks in IL and as many does as you want.

In Indiana we're allowed only one Buck. There are Counties that have Bonus Antlerless Tags but one has to pay for each Deer. $120.75 for Non-residents and Residents pay $24 per Deer. Also Indiana issues General Firearm license which covers Shotgun slug, Pistol, and M/L, the we have a Archery License, and a late M/L license we must purchase if we what to hunt all seasons.

I'll expand on the two gun tags. That means two shotgun tags. You can also get a tag for muzzleloader season (either sex) and the late firearms season (antlerless only). So that's a total of 4 firearms tags that could be purchased. Along with the basically endless amount of archery tags you could get.And as long as you take no more that 2 bucks total overall, you're good.

Re: How Many tags does your state give out a year?

I get the same number of tags as Shawn when purchasing the "super sportsman" license, but here on Long Island (DEC Region 1) during the Oct 1 - Dec 31 archery season if you shoot a doe they give you a replacement "either sex" tag. If you use that replacement tag for a buck then thats it, but if you use that tag for a doe they will issue you another tag. As long as you use the replacement tags for a doe they will keep issuing you replacement tags. So technically you could shoot a doe a day for the entire season if you had the mind to, not that anyone would or should. They have even started following the same replacement tag policy during our special Long Island January shotgun deer season.
