Went down to the wire this year for me. Was able to get out of work early friday afternoon and of course I headed straight for the woods....... smile.gif

Got to the stand about 2 pm. There was a NE wind which was OK for the stand location I chose. About an hour later I saw a dink buck cruising the woods well off to my left. Nice body size but not much horn on his head. As I watched that buck fade off into the woods I just happened to turn in time to catch the shadow of the legs of this deer coming through the thicket to my right. I was able to stand and pivot to a proper shooting position without being detected. As the deer approached a shooting lane I grunted him to a stop.........right behind some brush. mad.gif He didn't see me or become startled so he just resumed walking. I grunted again, when he came to a stop I settled the 20 yard pin on his heart and touched the release. It went into slow motion at this point. I watched the arrow disappear right into the heart pocket. The deer didn't react like he'd been hit. I know I saw the arrow plow through him but he just took a couple bounds then stopped.......

I watched him through my binoc's for what seemed like several seconds. I figured what the heck if he's gonna stand there I'm gonna hit him again. I dug my range finder out of my pack and ranged him to exactly 40yds. I centered my 40yd pin on his tail and touched off the second shot. This one got his attention......He made about a 25yd half circle and piled up. When I went to retrieve him my second arrow had followed the spine right along his tail. When I field dressed him I found that the first arrow had punched a beautiful hole right through the middle of his heart........... confused.gif. That's the first time I've had a heart shot deer react this way. Had I not known that my first arrow was on mark I wouldn't have taken the second shot........

The doe in this pic was taken saturday morning with my slug gun.

What a nice way to spend a weekend.........Now for the skinning and butchering...........that's a different story.
