Went for a walk today - pics

I wasn't sure where to post this so here it is. If it needs to be moved them please move it.

I went out hunting this morning. I ended up coming in around 9am because of the wind. Not to mention that it's 58 degrees out!!!

Unbelievable!!

Anyway, I came home, did a few things and decided since it was so nice out I'd go for a scout/shed hunting walk out back. I found a few spots I need to take a closer look at but the interesting part of my trip was the 3 sets of bones I found.

It's kinda morbid but I always liked to find skeletons in the woods. crazy.gif

The first was actually just a skull. It looked like it had been there for over a year due to the condition of it. I'm pretty sure this one is the skull of a doe.

This second set of bones is a bit more interesting. I don't know what animal it was. It has a much more round skull with wider teeth and an all around wider head.

There was also some vertabrae, ribs and what I think was a possibly the pelvis.

Due to the stubbiness of the snout and the rounded rear of the skull I don't believe it's a deer. I don't believe it's a fox or coyote for the same reasons. The rest of the bones were a good size. A larger animal size. A dog, maybe?

TWO PICS OF THE PELVIS?

This last pic is of what I'm pretty sure was a deer judging by the overall length of the spine. All that was left of this one was what looked to be all the vertabrae and some ribs.

It proved to be a pretty interesting day in the woods. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the second set of remains is?

All in all an absolutely beautiful day for a walk. But not the January weather I'm used to. grin.gif

Cool!

Top one is definitely a doe, younger one too judging by the sharpness of the teeth.

The other one??????

I don't know. To be honest, and not to be mean or anything, but it looks like a mongoloid deer. It's not a cow, their foreheads are flat. Definitely not a dog, the tooth pattern is wrong. It looks like another type of ungulate. Are there any game farms in the area?

No game farms. No dairy farms. I really don't know.

I posted this on AT and one member there seems to think it's a youg doe.

It's hard to tell from the pics but the skull in question is wider than the top skull.

The teeth in the skull in question are also as large, if not larger, than the teeth in the first skull.

This is why I don't believe it's a deer.

Yeah, I agree. On fawns you can see the last molar either not erupted yet, or just poking out, so I don't think it's a fawn.

The eye sockets are wrong too. That's why I said it looks like a deformed deer of some sort. confused.gif

Weird.
