oo_buck
That sounds all-too-familiar. Pretty much the same story here. I am lucky in that I don't lease, or own the property where I have this problem. It belongs to a family friend. When things reach the limit I've set mentally, I go to greener pastures for the rest of the season. It's just a shame we can't all share hunting ground with people who have the same goals and standards as us.
Tominator
Re: should I try? i would do the face to face with these guys if i could. if they're not being honest i would start taking the deer too if those type of deer are the only opportunities i had. i'd rather have some deer than no deer. Tony
Re: should I try? i dont know its a very touchy subject. if you confront them and they dont like it they will go out of there way to shoot whatever they want. if you leave them alone they are probably going to do the same thing. so what the heck talk to them see if they are willing to lets some small bucks pass. let them know you are going to do the same and in a few years you hope to have bigger bucks. try to get them to shoot does if possible instead of small bucks. good luck im sure your going to need it and a major dose of patience. good hunting Tony
buffett1
Re: should I try? I would talk to these guys and let them know what is really supposed to be happening there. I think that if they are good sportsmen, they should understand the bigger picture and do what's right. Good luck to ya'.
wyohunter
Re: should I try? perhaps get the landowner to put up a size limit, and let you or someone else police it for him, talking to these type indiviuals seems hopeless..... bulldawg
Re: should I try? They paid the lease, and are hunting the way they wish to hunt. You told them of your intentions before, and (probably hoping that you would pass some bucks up) they told you they only shoot bigger bucks. There is no such thing as a good confrontation, if you are going to tell them you are serious about anything. You can just go chat with them, and that will tell you what you want to know. They basically are telling you how they feel about shooting smaller bucks, when they shoot them. Everyone has their own style of hunting. I am not a trophy hunter either. On that chunk of land, I would take a deer for the freezer, whether it be a smaller buck, or not. Just my opinion.
Jeramie
Re: should I try? There is no account for anyone who calls theirself a hunter to just pick off anything when theyve been asked not to. I hunt for meat mainly so its nothing for me to shoot a doe or spike. But i have no boundries where i hunt. You need to contact the owner and inform him on what is going on. He may not believe you but it may put a feather in his cap (get him to thinking). In fact on a basis you know that they have harvested an animal he wouldnt agree with, id call him and have him check for himself. When people think highly of others they tend to be somewhat blind to faults, unless he's informed this will go on and on and on.....
