Cleaning an Encore ?

I sat down today and read the book that came with my new Encore cover to cover but just have one question.

Am I to understand that everytime I was to run a patch through the bore while say at the range I have to connect the copper tip to the ram rod ? The rod is the exact lenght of the barrel of course without the copper piece on.

I did notice however that the rod alone is ribbed on the end, will this hold a patch in order to just clean ?

Just seems like a pain to have to screw this on and carry every time ?

Re: Cleaning an Encore ?

Yep, use the brass extended jag to hold the patch. The ribbed end is to allow you to get a better grip on the rod for removing the patch. It can get extremely tight. More than one occasion I have had to remove the breechplug and force the rod the rest of the way down the barrel. If it seems like it is a pain, thats part of ML hunting. I use the RAT from Precision Rifle. It rotattes, allowing the head to spin with the rifling. It does a better job. Before that tool came out, I loosened the jag one turn so it will spin as it goes up and down the bore. The same goes for brushes.

Re: Cleaning an Encore ?

that is one way but we got a separate cleaning rod with a tip on it that we use to hole pieces of paper towel and after ever shot through our Encore we run one spit patch of paper towel and then one dry patch, then after about ever 5-6 shots we take the breach plug out and clean it pretty well. Sounds like busy work but it isn't and you get in a routine pretty quick. Good luck!
