A buddy and I have gone out yote hunting about 5 times. We use contton tail distress calls first, if nothing we mix it up and use anything from cotton tail calls to howls. We have not called in one yote. We are getting frustrated. We play the wind, sit in the shadows and do a good job of not fidgeting or moving. Our calls sound just like they do on the instructional tapes, I do not know what to do!!!! And I know there are lots of yotes around. We see tracks and hear a ton of them during deer season.

My electronic call decided not to work this year so I may need to buy a new one. We have been using mouth calls so far.

What electronic calls do you guys reccomend? Price does not matter, Me and two other hunters will be splitting it.

Any help would be appreciated, we are getting frustrated.

Thanks--Rossman

We have not heard any coyotes howling yet. i think the mating season starts next month around here, but i really don't know. it's all speculation for me this early in my yote carrier.

As for electronic calls, what do you reccomend?

Re: Having trouble with yotes in NY, need help!!!!

I do not like electronic callers, I have called pastures were the top of the line electronic have been used the past few days with minimal luck and i pull in and get 4 within 2 hours,I liek to be able to change things up and use a different sound every time I go out! I have one spot I have killed 9 coyoles,2 doubles and 5 singles, that is all since nov 15 or so to, change the sound have good luck, have the same sound and they get used to it and no luck!! I am not sayign that electronic do not have there place, I love them on windy days i hunt alone, I set them downwind of me, I have a homeade one, a motercycle battery, a car player and a tape i bought at a local store, I may get a few good weeks in early season with pups but rarly do i get a adult to coem in seeign they have heard it before!with my string of calls I carry I can convince most coyotes to come in once I see them even if they stick back!If they hold up trying a different sound is the secret usually, once they get within 3-400 yards the squeeker is what i use, it brings them in on a string!!

Up here the coyotes do not usually breed till first week or second in feb this year they started first week in jan, screwed up year,

If I were to get a electronic I woudl get a small lightweight one thta is easy to carry and that I coudl change up sounds as needed or add on, I have heard the foxpro on vidio and sounds good but I expect like any taped sound would work a area till the coyotes hear it once and its not good till next year,

I wish you luck but my sugestion would be to go to a website liek varmet als ect and get some instructional tapes like the one you get with a primos mini mag howler and practice the vocalization of a coyote it makes all the difference calling once they have gotten a bit call shy and once they are serching for mates liek lal of jan and feb,or elce protecting there teratory liek they do once they get a mate!

Prob of the last 40 coyotes i have shot this past month 80% have been within 75 yards and a bunch within 30, plus alot come trottign in not even thinking of the wind like they do on a distress, they are sure there is a coyote in there teratory and are either comign in to get it off or else comign in to see if it is a possable mate, either way they do not seem scared, only thing different is they respond slow, most walk in and take over 15 minutes, nice up here to be able to see them for 1/2 mile off most times and changeup to convince them in!

Best of luck, hope I helped a bit!!

If you are looking into electronic callers check out www.gofoxpro.com or www.minaskaoutdoors.com

Foxpro and Minaska make some of, if not the best, ecallers out there. Check out the Foxpro FX3.. I have the Foxpro 416 and couldn't be more pleased with mine. I'm dying for an FX3 though.. grin.gif

Dol these calls have enough volume? If you had the choice between the two calls, which one would you choose? Like I said, price does not matter, I'm splitting it with a buddy.

Thanks again for all your help!!!!--Rossman

You do not need to play a caller at full volume continuosly to call in a predator. Predators have great hearing and both callers will work. Both companies sell speaker extensions if you're interested. It seems to me that Minaska callers are built around volume. If you choose either company, I'm sure you won't be dissatisfied. They both make great products and there are millions of people out there who can attest to that.

Next question, what is the difference between the cone or a horn speaker?

Also, I have a "Phantom Predator, Hunter Series" electronic call. I had trouble getting it to work but my guy at work fixed it for me. Is this call just as good as the higher priced calls? Or would a Higher priced call work better?

Now that my call works I do not have to buy another one. What do you think about this call?

Thanks again--Rossman

Re: Having trouble with yotes in NY, need help!!!!

The animals do not care what kind of caller or what the price of the caller was.. obviously wink.gif. But the sound does have to sound real. I'm sure the Extreme Dimensions has worked for a bunch of hunters before and probably will continue to work. The only disadvantage to it is you cannot change sounds. The Foxpro can be either sent back to the factory, you put your own sounds on it or you can download from your computer to the unit.

With Minaska, you can change out memory cards and have different sounds instantly. You can change sounds in the field basically.

I have the Extreme Dimensions Phantom Predator as well, but when I compare the sounds on it to my Foxpro, the sounds just aren't as real as Foxpro's. Plus, like I said, the sound library Foxpro has just can't be beaten.

As for the speakers, I am not sure.
