AJ
Re: winchester model 12 ? They were one of the best pump guns ever made. There was a lot of hand fitting involved with the Model 12 and it was butter smooth to operate. Because of the amount of handfitting necessary, Winchester could not keep them on the market for reasonable prices. They were too expensive to manufacture. The action is just a symphony of mechanical parts and it is the most desirable slide action gun. I know shooters that still shoot trap with them. If you ever get the chance to shoot a few gun in comparrison, shoot the Mossberg, then the newer 870s, then an old 870, then a Model 12. You will find it just gets better and better. Hoosierbuck
Re: winchester model 12 ? Just don't keep the trigger pulled while you cycle it! Grew up shooting dad's model 2 in 16 ga. for almost everything, that and the scoped model 61? pump .22. Only guns he ever used much, that's another reason it is sad to see Winchester hurting so bad. Around our house..."Winchester is spoken here." HB
Tominator
Re: winchester model 12 ? [ QUOTE ] Mossberg, then the newer 870s, then an old 870, then a Model 12. You will find it just gets better and better. [/ QUOTE ] Have to agree with that. I have or have shot all of those guns mentioned above. My uncle has a model 12 in 16 gauge. I don't know how old it is, but I think it's pre WWII if I'm not mistaken. I have my dad's old 1957 Rem 870 in 16 gauge, I have a newer 870 express, and my buddy has a Moss., and I'd have to ditto AJ.
HarvDog
Re: winchester model 12 ? I've never shot a Mossberg but do own a newer 870 express and really like it...and now even more with my newly finished stocks. (Thanks again Tominator). WNY_Whitetailer
Re: winchester model 12 ? My grandfather handed his Model 12 in 16GA down to me about 5 years ago...I have used it a couple times for grouse hunting. It is light and easy to swing...I love it.
