Remember when you first started hunting and your heart would POUND at the sight of deer, whether it was a fawn, a doe or a buck???

I have found that nowadays.....my heart only races when a buck is in sight or I hear one grunt. The does

don't get my heart racing anymore.

Ya'll the same way????

Re: Heart rate

hey are you implying by posting this in the womens forum that only women have hearts or at least functional hearts. Because I'll tell you right now, my heart beats just as fast as yours and my hands shake like yours when a 8X8 pops into my shooting lanes. I'm just bugging you... I usually don't have time to think when I hunt.. we do alot of stalking, but i do find the heart beating after the shot... good post

Nope, just asking the girls cause I want to know from THEM if the reaction changes in THEM after a while.

I have asked guys this question and have gotten the same answer from ALL of them. Their heart rates are the same... no matter what kind of deer appears. Their hearts pound hard no matter what.

Re: Heart rate

Here's another guy that finds that the heartrate is in direct proportion to the liklihood of shooting the deer. If I am out for meat, any leaf crunching shoots me to the moon, but if I am buck hunting, only the antlers get me. It's all about whether I am going to shoot or not. If I am not going to, and calmly watch a deer for a while and change my mind, there goes the heart rate!

Re: Heart rate

Just wondering if I was "losing it". grin.gif

Yeah, the sound of something walking in gets my heart rate up but if it turns out to be a doe...it slows down immediately.

If a buck comes in and even if it's a little ol' spike....I feel like I am going to flat line. blush.gifgrin.gif LOL

If I hear the brush start popping or the leaves start to rustle like deer are coming, my heart comes close to pounding out of my chest everytime.

LOL I'm the same way...I don't even have to see the deer for my heart to start pounding! grin.gif To bad the culprit is usually some over active squirrels! crazy.gif

Don't you just hate those darn squirrels when they get all noisy like that? I've threatened to shoot many a squirrel because of it. LOL Usually the deer make way less noise than those pesky 'ol tree rats. Crazy things.. crazy.gifsmirk.gifgrin.gif

Re: Heart rate

huntin_girl I'll bet your heart would pound like the old days if you started bow hunting. Maybe even more so.

To be perfectly honest it's just not the same with a firearm for me. While hunting with a firearm, if it's not a mature buck I really don't get fired up like I did when I was young. If I have a stick and a string in my hand its a whole different story.

Re: Heart rate

I've been hunting for 7 or 8 years now and my heart pounds as much now as it did when I first started hunting! With bow hunting, if a deeri s coming my way, I start shaking,my hearty is racing, I'm afraid to move! Maybe halfway through shotgun season do I calm down a little bit, but I still feel the thrill!

There's plenty of time to gear up, practice and get ready before this coming fall. Honestly there's nothing like the excited feeling I get with bowhunting. That is except for maybe spring turkey hunting. grin.gif It doesn't matter if it's a buck or a doe, I get excited with both. If I get a shot, I still get the after shot shakes. grin.gif

grin.gif--------I got the shakes yesterday just from having to sit still for so long while a doe stared at me. She stayed there feeding around for an HOUR. crazy.gif
