small school players get shaft from NFL

Does it bother anyone else but me that small school kids "never" (well harly ever) get a shot at the big time....no matter how talented? We've got a local kid (Tyler Emmert) that is a truly outstanding QB, 4.0 GPA, as down-to-earth as any human could be and the poor guy will likely never see an NFL field even though he dreams of it. He won state titles his last two years of high school and then won 4 consecutive national NAIA titles for Carrol College. No offense to our Canadian friends, but he will likely end up there and never get a shot at the big time. Reminds a ton of another player our Canadian friends should be familiar with...Dave Dickenson. That poor guy never got a real chance despite having all the tools and qualifications.

It is so funny to watch NFL teams struggle with these big name punks at QB when a diamond in the rough is just waiting for a phone call. Wish these kids would get a chance....but nobody said life was fair.

If he is that good then he should have had 1A colleges beating down his door.

His best bet would be to go to a pro team and work out for them........He has the ball in his court, all he needs to do is to contact an agent, show him tape of what he can do, and then let the agent start making contacts.

He had the big-time offers but elected to stay home and win national championships FOUR of them! May have killed his chances and he probably knew that going in. He has an agent and a former teammate playing for the Detroit Lions, so anything is possible. He played in a post season senior game last week or the week before and threw a touchdown so he's getting some exposure. I've just seen too many small-school kids get the shaft (in my opinion) to have optimism for him. I believe John Kitna is the only NAIA QB in the NFL right now. Who knows - maybe he'll surprise us all.

I happen to know a guy that came from a small college in NW Oklahoma that just finished his 5th year playing for the Dallas Cowboys. Granted he was not a QB, BUT he did come from a small college, so it can be done..........BTW, He started all last year, and played special teams this year

the NFL is a completely different game. When you have 300 lbs D-line man that can run down runningbacks, not every talented kid can compete. Plus, scouts look at size and ability almost equally. I think that gets most guys passed over. If you're not 6'5" 225 lbs. chances are NFL teams won't even take a second look, it's unfortunate, because I think a lot of good players go undiscovered because of it.

You are exactly right muggs! How ironic that the so-called experts in the NFL were so wrong about Ryan Leaf when he came out of college, when all who knew him personally could have told you he would fail miserably. He had great size, strong arm, etc., but was dumb as a board and a complete punk. I would take a smart, intelligent QB anyday of the week over the prototype kid with no brain.

I'm done ranting - keep your ears out for this kid: Tyler Emmert is his name. Who knows.....maybe he'll make it and you heard it here first grin.gif
