c_lou
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I am a Computer Programmer for a HealthCare System. My boss is pretty good about letting me leave early in the fall. I will usually try to get to work early. Also most Saturdays and Sundays, depending on the wind. Guest generallee
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting College student with 2 years left. I go to school about 100 miles from my hunting property and schedule classes so that i can be in the woods friday evening through sunday evening on every weekend that i am able to go (which turns out to be most of them). After gradution i owe the army 8 years of service. But i will still find time to hunt.
Guest 2500HD
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting [ QUOTE ] Just curious to see what you guys do for work and how you have the time to go hunting. I know time is very valuable to many people. I am getting ready to graduate College with a Bachelors in Science and just curious to see what you guys do for work and hunting and how it mixes together. [/ QUOTE ] I'm assuming you are graduating from SIU. I graduated there in 95 with a BS in Industrial Eng. I now work as a Mfg. Eng and have to hunt weekends and evenings if I can. This will all end next month as i am retiring at age 35 to hunt....well I mean i started my own lawn care business last year P/T and I will be F/T this year so i will have the falls off. Also in Oct I bought the hair salon where my wife works. All of this done to open my falls up just to hunt. Pretty scary giving up the steady $$$ and working for yourself but what are you going to do when you want to hunt everyday!

Guest silver
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting Lets here it for the Bankers. Ever hear of "Banker's Hours". I hunt as much as my family allows. 4 kids in sports with me coaching 2 teams keeps me hopping. I get out of state 2 or 3 times a year and hunt several days each week. Life is good! ksbowhntr77
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I'm a survey tech and construction inspector. When we're not busy or the weather's real bad we can sneak off to do some hunting. When we're surveying it's almost not like work b/c we do a lot of rural surveys and we get to see alot of wildlife. I love my job.

LETMGROW
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I'm a self employed auto repair shop and auto machine shop owner with employees. Although I would and probably could leave at any time I don't. I feel a responsibility to my business and employees to be on the job. My son works for me and is an avid hunter as well as my wife works in the office. She too loves to hunt. I can't in good concience leave. Besides these two are my primary hunting buddies, and it just isn't as much fun without them.
buckee
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I paint houses for a living, and have to admit it is getting almost impossible for me to get out at all during bow season and early gun season anymore. Just getting practise in during the summer is a real feat. I have to make hay while the sun shines to get my summer exterior work all done. It's tough working for yourself, and by yourself sometimes. I always look for an opening in the work load though and take full advantage of it. Luckily (mt wife will not agree ) the painting slows down to a dribble come November and I'm good to go when the rut is on.

RangerClay
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting [ QUOTE ] I'm a teacher, and when it comes to hunting, that's good and bad. It's good because I can get out nearly every day and hunt the evenings (if my kids don't have practice that is), but bad because I can't take vacation and go somewhere out west, or even around here. Principals kind of frown on vacation time during the school year. [/ QUOTE ] You took the words right out of my mouth. Everyone thinks that teachers have it so great but that is not always the case. All my buddies are going on a caribou hunt this Sept. but I cannot go...because I am a teacher. Ranger

Straight Shooter
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I am a automotive factory worker having been there coming up on 19 years in May. I get four weeks vacation a year and soon to be 5 weeks after 20 years at the factory. I use a week to go vacation with the wife and kids in the summer and this leaves me with three weeks. I also get off work at 3:00 p.m. and have the evenings to hunt as well.
silentgate
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting I'm a factory worker. In the Fall I can look out a window at work and see deer grazing in a cornfield. That keeps me pumped! I always make time for hunting. I'll take a week off during deer and turkey seasons. My wife and kids know to "Not mess with Dad" during the deer season!!
Guest deadeye270
Re: Occupation and Deer Hunting Financial planner with a mutual fund company...I more or less set my own schedule and as long as my work gets done, they don't care. I also get 25 personal/sick/holiday days to spread out across the year. That said with a 2yr old and a newborn, I feel bad leaving my wife to try to take care of them. I'm just waiting till I can start taking my oldest son with me.
