Texan_Til_I_Die
I've got a 5 person group to guide for this weekend in West Texas. They're bringing out a half dozen seasoned pointers and 2 or 3 pups. We've got plenty of quail so the dogs should get a lot of work. And just this once, PLEASE let the dogs be in good shape and the hunters be good shots!

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Quail Trip This Weekend We had a good trip. High winds both days made it tuff for the dogs and for the shooters, but we still got about 100 quail. The stupid batteries went dead in my digital camera about an hour into the first day, so I only got a few pics.

pointing_dogs_rule
Re: Quail Trip This Weekend Texas! I have a quick question; I hunt out in South Dakota one - two times per year. I am from Iowa where there are no rattlesnakes. In the area I hunt in South Dakota there are snakes at times. Question: Do these guys that hunt with you "snake train" thier dogs when they are coming to Texas?? Thanks, Good luck to all the dog
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Quail Trip This Weekend I take it you mean the snake aversion training with a defanged rattlesnake and a real hot shock collar? Not many go to that trouble and expense. Most either just take their chances or they immunize their dogs for snakebite before hunting. It's not as big a problem as you might think. In the past 5 years, we've only had 1 lab get bit and he lived. And that's with somewhere around a couple thousand hours of dog work. Most of the others were using either Browning or Remington autos in 12 gauge with field load 71/2.
