VTbowman
Since I went to handgun hunting with a new (to me) Encore 7mm.08 I am also in the market for some shooting sticks. I am seriously looking at the Stoney Point Bi-Pod or the Stoney Point Steady Sticks II. (I would then get the tripod kit for either one.) I like the fold up and wear on your belt for the Steady Stix II but are they real steady or kinda flexable? The telescopic bi-pod looks to be a lot more strudy but is not as pack-in friendly. This is a concern of mine since they will be mainly for walking from the truck to the tree stand. Once on stand I 'may' use then for a steadier rest but do not want another piece of gear that will be in my way if not. (bi-pod) I also will be using the sticks in ground blinds. Help me decide! AJ
Re: Shooting sticks. I used the Steady Stix at first this year and I liked them. The only thing I did not like was they were too short to use when sitting in a chair. If I was sitting on the ground, they were sweet. They were lightweight but sturdy enough to support my 10 pound Savage ML for long periods of time. I just folded them up and slipped them into my back pocket. They worked well until I hunted an area that had waist to belly high grass. They were too short for me to use and see over the grass. I bought a Cabelas Bipod and it worked very well. The only drawback is the top is just hard plastic. I glued a piece of belt leather on top and it works very nice. Its adjustable enough to be used prone, sitting on ground, sitting in a chair, kneeling, or standing. I feel confident enough with this thing to take a 250+ yard shot standing up leaning on a tree. Its rock solid. It's not quite as compact as the Stoney Point Stix, but its not that far off. I have pulled it out of my pocket and gotten it ready for a shot quickly while walking out of the woods. AJ
Re: Shooting sticks. Yeah, they were like $5 cheaper than the Shooting Stix.
VTbowman
Re: Shooting sticks. Yep just checked them out and they will do nicely. I see what you mean about the rest being hard plastic. No prob there, I have plan for that as well. Got there 2"x4"x3/16" pieces of very flexable and soft clear rubber at work that will glue up nicely for a pad. Water proof too. Thanks! EKYhunter
Re: Shooting sticks. I have a pair of the Stoney Point Steady Stix and they work very well for a seated shot. I've used them to kill a few deer and they really help you to hold steady. I'm also planning on letting my six-year-old daughter use them for turkey hunting out of my double bull blind during the youth season.
