4Blade
When do you guys have the most success hunting coyotes??I have no trouble locating them after dark with a Johnny Stewart game call but cant seem to get them in close enough for a shot............I think that they see me before I see them,,My usual routine is to sit in the dark and turn the game call on for a few minutes with a locator call then turn the call down and listen,,,If I hear coyotes answer the call I switch tapes to a rabbit distress call for a few min and then shine a spotlight with a red filtered lens around..........But iam having no luck bringing them in ............What is the best strategy for hunting coyotes??I have lots of them around to hunt because they answer to the locator calls,,,But Iam not doing something right........... Guest ronin
Re: Daylight or Dark Switch up your noises to a different rabbit species if you can. Once busted using one sound will make it difficult to get them in again. I alternate using jack rabbit, cottontail, arctic hare, fox distress, racoon distress, etc.
jcwa
Re: Daylight or Dark Do not start your calling sequence with a coyote locator call. When you use a coyote locator call it make coyotes very weary and they will either come in cautious or not at all. By using the locator call you give the coyotes the impression that their is a pack of coyotes over there, and he/she is not going to want to come in and get there tail whipped. Coyotes locator call are for locating areas that coyotes are in. Before you start calling, shine your light around to see whats out there first. You want to know if there are any other animals around like a deer or cow are in the area you are calling. Turn your caller on and continue shining the area until you are done calling the area. When a coyote is spotted keep the halo of the light on them, try not to shine the light directly at them.
