Guest ronin
Re: using mouth calls? Try finding some instructions or video tape on using diaphram turkey calls. They often times have very good intructions on DVD, VHS, etc. Same concept but the noise is different.

sureshot
Re: using mouth calls? I have never had luck with a diaphram call but open and closed reeds I will call in more coyotes than any electronic 95% of the time !a different sound each time is needed and a electronic is the same each time and a coyote becomes warry easilly! I would highly recommend going to a website like varmet als that has the sounds and as you listen to it on the computer try to duplicate it,it does not need to be perfect I have had some of my best responces from a screw up!I was trying to use a knight and hale closed reed howler and soundign terrable and was about toleave when I seen 2 bootign across a bottomI started to blow the howler like I did then and had super luck at the future stands! also like said above instructional tapes, I know you get one with the primos mini mag holwer that has really helped me out, with a closed reed all you need to do is blow it faster and then slower as you end,use your hands at the end as a baffle to adjust the sound, get it as harse and raspy as possable, with a open reed it all depends on what doing, a howl, bark,or distress,a distress I start out at with my mouth usually near the back and as I blow I move it to the tip,as I blow I quiver using both my breath and my hands as a baffle!I wish I could show you hard to explain but get a instructional tape, it makes all the difference in the world!! good luck, hope I helped a bit!! Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: using mouth calls? I do prety much the same thing. One trick I've picked up that seems to work well on yotes is to build up the volume to a crescendo and then completely open your hands and blow 2 or 3 notes through the call just as loud as you possibly can - no quiver or anything - just blast it out then pinch it off quick. Don't worry about what it sounds like, the yotes think it sounds like dinner!
