Re: Best Turkey hunting State...

Ive only hunted Georgia and Texas. Im may be a little biased in my opinion but i love Texas. When you have more than 2 dozens gobblers sounding off within hearing distance you cant help but love it. Not to mention they arent call shy.

Re: Best Turkey hunting State...

Sounds like (with the exception of Wigs) y'all are making a pitch for your home state. It's hard to beat the spring turkey hunting here in MS. We have a 48 day spring season, 3 mature gobbler bag limit, with 7 day a week all day hunting, along with a great turkey population.

However, instead of making a pitch for my home state as the best state I have another choice based on more than just killing turkeys. With that said my most enjoyable and memorable spring turkey hunting experiences have been hunting in the Rockies of northern New Mexico. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. To me, Merriam turkeys are about the most beautiful turkeys of the 4 subspecies we have available in the states to hunt. If you've never been to the mountains to hunt Merriams, you ought to go at least once in your life. wink.gif

well of course id say maryland has done a great job re-establishing its now awesome turkey population..

but id have to say Vermont is my second pick....good god do they have some birds up there.....sure makes up for their lame deer population LOL

You just said a mouth full, lol.

Seriously, I'll be guiding a lot this year for turkeys so I get to see just how good the birds are here, and after hunting in a few different states, I haven't found one that comes close to us here.

Eastern Washington State. Rios, Merriams, Easterns and mixed Rio/Merriams.

Texas Hill Country. Watched a morning fly down that took literally an hour, hundreds of birds. Sutton County Texas. So many birds in fact, they allow you to shoot hens during deer season (3 months bow/rifle combined). 4 birds per license. You hunt your 4 and your kids hunt theirs. Fun for the entire family. It ought to be against the law smile.gif
