Because there are tons of variations of .223's, they are cheap to shoot, and you can get them in sporter weight, any flavor you wnat. Seems like a lot of the .220/.22-250s are varminters and too heavy for bushwacking a lot. Plus, unless you are really stretching it out in the 3-400 yard range, the .223 gets the job done just fine. As to the .204, it may be the cats patoot, but the you aren't seeing them out in the used market, and ammo is a little more steep, at least around here. Been thinking of going with a NEF Handi in .204 for fun, but can't seem to find the extra $400 for rifle and scope under the couch cushions. My $.02, anyway.
