Rhino
I was just curious what the state turkey records were for your state. I guess some of you will have them for different species of wild turkeys. We only have Eastern birds in Mississippi and here are the current official records. Typical: 80.64 taken April 8, 2005 Non-Typical: 148.3 taken March 28, 2002 Longest Spur: 1.81" taken April 30, 1990 Longest Beard: 17.25" taken April 30, 2001 (Yep that's not a typing error) Heaviest: 25.25 lbs. taken March 30, 2004 Sure are a lot of new records since the turn of the century. The good old days for turkey hunting here are right now!

[/ QUOTE ] Yep, I can't remember the name of the law about body size being bigger the further north you go but that's probably why.

jbeck
Re: State Records I know the state record here from 3 years back had 5 beards, I watched that bird that winter. Pat Strawser caught up with him 5 miles west of where he wintered. Like I said that was 3 years ago, don't know if he still has the record or not. atthewall
Re: State Records I might have shot the Texas largest Rio in the bow category (NWTF) a couple of years ago? Both spurs 1.5, 10 inch beard but.....I didn't get his weight total. He felt 20+ but I didn't get an exact. I'll have the mount at this year's NWTF roundup in Nashville. Next time, the scale is going with me.
