huntinsonovagun
After shooting several different loads, of different price ranges, I finally got one that I like. Winchester 45gr HP's. Some of the cheapest ones I can find too...go figure! (glad it didn't like the silver ballistic tips....those are EXPENSIVE!!) I'm looking to start reloading this summer, but I think these HP's will do... Now I'm going to float the barrel and add the o-ring to the H&R and see what she'll do then. Shot cans of pop at 200 yards fairly easy and got one at 300, but I ran out of the load my gun liked. Had to call it a day... This is my 100 yard group (the first 3, then I decided to move my scope....) I'll take a group like this any day! I finally figured out my trigger pull was killing my groups. I wasn't squeezing hard enough, and when I did, my shots occurred quicker and more accurate. Also helped me follow through on the trigger pull. I do believe I'll have the action sent in to get the trigger poundage reduced. So far it looks like it may be good enough for my needs!! Anxious to get to work on the forend...I just wanted to see if I can tell a difference in my groups.

VermontHunter
Re: Finally got it on the bench... I would say that's exceptional shooting right there.... I would say she's dialed in pretty darn good...
huntinsonovagun
Re: Finally got it on the bench... That is an H&R handi rifle in .223 w/ supposedly a bull barrel, although it doesn't look like a bull barrel.
tedicast
Re: Finally got it on the bench... looks good HSG...my Encore .223 prefer the same round. I fed it 5 or 6 different ammos, and it picked the cheap stuff!!!
huntinsonovagun
Re: Finally got it on the bench... Hey tedi....how did it like the same load, but with the FMJ's? Did you try those? I notice they're HALF the price of the hollow points!! $7.something per 40.
johnf
Re: Finally got it on the bench... If you've got the bull barrel, you'll know it. It's about as big around as a quarter. For those of you that are unfamilar with the h&R/Nef guns, I've got a 243 and 25.06 that shoot about like that. It's a great shooting gun at a better price. huntinsonovagun
Re: Finally got it on the bench... Huh, that's weird. I ordered a bull barrel, but when I got it, it was tapered. My buddy bought a .17hmr a few days later and it has a bigger barrel than my gun. What should I do?? Will H&R be able to tell me if I have a bull barrel by the serial number? johnf
Re: Finally got it on the bench... I don't know if they will, probibly though. The bull barrel, at first glance, looks about as big as a 12ga. barrel. I picked one up at Gander a few weeks ago. It sounds to me like you've got the wrong gun. Seems to shoot pretty sweet though. tedicast
Re: Finally got it on the bench... I didn't shoot the Winchester FMJ's, HSG. I did shoot the Remingto FMJ's tho. I used then to sight in as they were the cheapest stuff I found. They didn't group nearly as good as the Winchester 45 grain JHP's
AJ
Re: Finally got it on the bench... Good shooting Ryan. Now you see what we have been saying about the Handi Rifles. They flat out shoot. Any of mine will put my Encore to shame even with the custom barrels. As to which barrel you have, does it really matter? The gun shoots 1/2" groups. If it aint broke don't fix it. The Bull Barrels are not true full bull profile. They are both tapered. The bull barrel is thicker than the sporter but its not an inch in diameter at the muzzle. The difference is about 1/8" larger diameter with the heavy barreled gun. This is the sporter barrel taper: This one is the heavy barrel varmint:
huntinsonovagun
Re: Finally got it on the bench... OK, thanks AJ. That's what I figured, and after yesterday's shooting, I wasn't overly concerned about the barrel, just that I thought I ordered one thing and received another. I'm ready to go shoot some more.... I've been thinking about getting one just can't decide which one.lol [/ QUOTE ] Pick one and then buy more barrels! My buddy went out and bought an H&R once I picked mine up. He got a .17 HMR. Man, I'm ALMOST wishing I had gotten one of those. What a sweet little caliber. Accurate, fast, cheap, and EXPLOSIVE. Just don't plan on shooting anything much larger than a rabbit or something.... Shaun_300
Re: Finally got it on the bench... Nice shootin' Ryan! Before I was never a fan of the single shot rifles, but lately I've been thinking about one. I've saw nothing but good results with them on here. huntinsonovagun
Re: Finally got it on the bench... I actually think shooting single shots is more fun for some strange reason It is cheaper for sure! I hear some of the most accurate rifles are single shots...I have no clue honestly though...I will say I'm please with my $200 gun!
