NYBUCK
Check out the wind river line. My brother-n-law has a pair and they are awesome, clear and light and compact. I think he has the 8 X 42.
AaronS
Re: Binoculars Check ebay for the Nikons. I've seen the 8x42 Monarch ATB's go for around $220.
EKYhunter
Re: Binoculars You would not be disappointed with the Nikons. I bought the Monarch 8X42 in HD Green camo for Christmas this year. They are very good glass and well worth $300.00. Check out a web site, theopticzone.com, and you'll see some great prices and Nikon and other optics. I think the Monarchs go for around $250.00 on that site. LETMGROW
Re: Binoculars If you haven't checked out the Simmons Atec line You should. These are amazing at a very competetive price. Look then you decide.
EKYhunter
Re: Binoculars I was looking at the January 2006 issue of Guns and Ammo magazine yesterday and saw that Nikon is coming out with a new Monarch ATB in 10X36 and 8X36. You might check on the price of these. Again I'd say go with the Monarch ATB in either 10X42 or 8X42. Nikon has a "No fault" return policy on these and they are exceptionally good glass for the money. I had planned on saving for some Swarovski or Zeiss but after comparing the Monarch's to the Swarovskis outside at dusk, I really could not tell a difference. Certainly not $900.00 difference. I'm not saying that the Monarch's are as good as the Swarovskis, I'm sure the Swarovskis are the best money can buy, but I don't think you'll find any better than the Nikons for the money. Just my opinion.
bwlacy
Re: Binoculars Well I had decided that I was going to get some Leupold Cascades in 10x42. But now with all the posts for Nikon maybe I better check them out and see. The ATB and the Cascades are about the same money.

bwlacy
Re: Binoculars Well the biggest criteria I have is that they must work well with eyeglasses. I have looked thru the Cascades and they were the best I have found so far in that price range. But I see that the Nikons also have twist down eye cups with about the same eye relief as the Leupolds. So they should be about the same.
wtnhunt
Re: Binoculars Dont think they make them anymore, but have a pair of tasco exp's in 8X42. The wife bought them for me for Christmas a few years back. I was disappointed when I opened the package and saw the name tasco, but have not been disappointed in the performance of these binoculars. They were around $200. They are very bright and clear. Just got a pair of the 8x32 burris landmark binos in with a fullfield scope package. They are decent. Tominator
Re: Binoculars I have a pair of Steiner Predators. 10x24. They're not that good in low light, but what pair of 24 objectives are? They are very nice. I got mine for $88. They are regularly $160 I think, but the salesman told me someone brought them back and he couldn't sell them as new, so he took 1/2 off.
