Guest OntHunter
WHAT DO YOU GUYS CONSITER(SP) A GOOD WEIGHT FOR A ARROW WITH YOU BROAD HEAD ON FOR DEER
PAbowhunter4life
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? Mine finishes out at 406 grains. I think that is a great compromise of both speed and weight for penetration. I personally like to hover around the 400 gr. mark for deer. LifeNRA
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? Hmmmmm, never thought about the entire weight before. I guess Ill have to get my scale out!
Guest lucky_erickson
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? My arrow setup with broadhead weighs 385 grains. Its a good balance. If your wondering about what you should be close too, goldtip has a program may help you in this area. Just build the custom arrow according to your specs and see if it checks out. www.goldtip.com "Build your own arrow."

Master_Chief
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? One thing you need to consider is Kinetic Energy. Esp is you are using expandables. I am shooting 366 gr arrows at 295 (67 lb draw weight) Gives me 71 ft-lbs of Energy.

JimPic
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? My hunting arrows weigh in at about 525gr. shot off 52# and 56# recurves.
VTbowman
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? For compound shooters its wise to be no lower then the minimum 5 grains per pound of draw weight. Most manufaturers use this a minimum for there designs and warentee. Trad shooters tend to use 8 to 11+ grains per pound. Mine are at 490g total off my 56#@25" recurve...
Straight Shooter
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? My arrows are set up at 380 grains on 65# and blast through any deer. Go with what works or shoots best with your set up.

maddhunter
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? Mine are 435 grain and are coming out of my Switchback @285fps Don't know what it will do to a deer yet but I'm sure it will blow right through
bwlacy
Re: ARROW WEIGHT FOR DEER??????? Well that depends on what you are looking for. I don't really care about speed for Whitetails from a tree stand. I prefer 7 or 8 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight for my white tail setup. You will still have plenty of speed with most compounds around today and also have a nice sturdy arrow. The most important part is to make sure that your setup is tuned to perfection.
