Guest hookedonhunting
i do alot of rubber worm fishing around rocks, stumps, blowovers, and any other nasty stuff i can find that holds bass in small private lakes. i was fishing with 10 pound mono berkley trilene until a couple weeks ago when i went to stren 17 lb mono test. with the ten lb test i was having a alot of breakoffs and got tired of it. i know 2 problems is that i dont retie often enough, and that i have the drag set fairly tight (not too tight) to get the big ones out from that stuff asap. all that to say i need a abrasion resistant line! what kind is good? i would rather not spend over 15 bucks for the regular 330 yard spool. i fish mostly with a shimano spirex and am thinking of going to 12 or 14 lb test since i catch alot of bass from 4 -7 pounds +. thanks for any advise!!! Shaun_300
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? Try out some Spiderwire. That is braided stuff is the best. it's fairly expensive but it is VERY strong. Another good thing about it is that if you're going to get 12lb test diameter line, the actual strength of the stuff is 50lb test. Meaning that the spiderwire line is the same thickness as mono, but 4x the strength. Here's their website if you want more info. www.fishspiderwire.com

You only need to worry about your guides if you really tightened the drag and put a lot of pressure on them. I think braid totally sucks on a spinning outfit. Works OK on baitcasting. SuperMn106
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? i have always used maxima. (i think thats the name lol) weather i am walleye, bass or salmon fishing i go with the 10 or 12 lb test. 2 years ago my brother caught a 30 lb salmon on the 12 lb test in the river. not sure if it will hold up against abrasion but it works good for me
unioncountyslayer
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? tie, re-tie, and re-tie. You have to almost get religous about it. Also, you could try using a steal leader. I fish some nasty rocks down by the beach and I tie on a steal leader. Not too heavy as to mess up your working the worm, but it does prevent breaking. birddog
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? I use Berkley 10" XT: for most of my fishing, when hitting tough bass lakes I do swith to a 20" braided dacron line, If you are fishing heavy cover, the bass don't seem to mind the line: Use a baitcasting reel, spooled with any of the above mentioned: I don't like spiderwire, fireline, etc; Because it has NOooooo, stretch to it: I like to use a braided dacron, or the Power Pro, but I can cut the dacron more easily when I need to retie...which you need to do more often:

Guest Rod
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? It's not made any more but if you can find anywhere that still has some ReaLine, try it. That stuff was darn good, too bad it's not around any more. I bought a bunch when I heard they were going out of business and still have another couple year's supply on hand. Other than that, try some Spider Wire Super Mono. And as others have said, re-tie often. I flip and pitch a lot, and usually re-tie after every fish.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes braid line is horrible in spinning reels! I use Stren 10-12 pound test on my bigger spinning reels. Re-tieing would be the best bet. Since your using a spinning reel, are you getting a lot of twist? If so, you might be installing the line wrong way! Make sure you put the line on the reel the same way it comes OFF the spool!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! Or you will get twists! Also, how do you close the bail? If you use the reel handle to close the bail, it adds one twist to the line everytime you close it! I close the bail with my free hand, as soon as the bait hits the water! If you do these two things you will see few or no twists in your line. If you out in a boat, and you have a lot of twisting in your line. Take off your bait, drift until you have about half of your line off the reel. Then reel the line back onto the reel. This will also remove some of the twisting. Good luck!
Guest hookedonhunting
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? no my line hardly ever twists. i also close the bail with my hand.
Guest lovinbowhuntin247365
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? yea, closing the bail with your hand helps a lot ... idont ever have trouble with twisting line with ym braided line, and thats all i use!! spinning and baitcasting ... i love the stuff, i use P-line Spectrex, and FireLine ... both work great, but P-Line is cheaper and gives a better lb test to diameter ratio
surreybigbuckhunter
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? i would us either power pro for braid or sufffix tritanium for mono
DU_man_84
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? if your gonna be fishing some heavy nast cover, yeah i would go with power pro, go get your self a 100 yards of 20lb 6lb diameter bought 15 bucks, recommend a baitcaster, then spool yourself bout 5 to 10 yards of mono on it and then attach power pro to the mono with a uni to uni not then fish it, if fishing very clear water i would go with a three foot mono leader to cut down on visibility , what i do works awesome
VABuckSlayer
Re: need some help with fishing line!?!?!? I don't use a spinning reel much so not sure what to recommend for it but I use Stren Florocarbon on just about all my rods. If I'm fishing heavy cover with jigs or plastics I'll use 17lb. More open water I use 14 lb. I've tried Berkley Vanish and it breaks pretty easy. I've also tried P-Line twice and it sux too. The strongest of the florocarbon lines in my opinion is the Stren. If I was to use a braid again I would go back to Fireline. It's pretty stout. I use it when I'm fishing the James River because it's usually pretty stained and I'm normally fished heavy cover there.
