hobie
Re: 2005 PA Buck Here is the story I call my Father in Law(Ron) at 5 am and he says he is not going and I talk him into hitting the woods for the day.Ronnie (Brothe r in Law)will not get out of bed to go so we leave him sleep. We get in the woods plenty early enough and I do a small push at around 8:30am.I hear Ron shot and finish the drive and walk up to him and he is PO that he missed. We start to talk about how he missed a chip shot and I said get in the truck we are going to the range to see if the gun is off.We then shoot the gun at 50 yards and it does not even hit the paper.I then move the paper to 25 yards and it hits 7inches high.I then told him we are going to grab one of my other guns and lets get back out.We then call Ronnie and he is up so we go get him and a something to eat. Once we get back in the woods the other guys who hunt the land are driving the northside of the mountain. We go on the southside and I set Ron and Ronnie up and I start to do a one man drive. After about a half and hour of walking can see ron and all of a sudden Ronnie shoots and yells buck coming up.The deer runs up and is in a full run and I shoot and hit it.It was 12:10 pm.I was amazed I hit the deer in a full run in the woods at 60 yards.A lucky shot but I rather be lucky then good. The buck is a small 8 pointer with an extra nub on the right beam.We then make a plan to do another drive.I then field dress the deer drag it down to the road and go back up and start another drive to them. This walks was a long one around a mile but I took my time and pushed it out.I hear a shot as soon as I begin but continue to them and finally get there after about an hour.Ronnie shot at a spike but did not go look for it until the drive was over.He can not find it so we both start looking and I find it about 70 yards away in the thickest stuff you could believe. He hit it in the neck and the deer drop in it tracks. This was the first time that Ronnie and I both got a buck on the same day.We were high fiving and joking around. The push had a lot of doe but no buck and Ron was after a buck only.In PA if you are under 17 years old you can shoot any buck. There is no antler restriction The next day we do not hunt so I went and sighted the FIL gun in and had it hitting a great group at 50 yards. The folowing day I shot a doe at over 100 yards in the woods with it and the doe never took a step

Hoyt03
Re: 2005 PA Buck Congrats on a fine buck. It seems the only people seeing many deer in PA this gun season were putting on small drives like your group. By the way what county did ya get him in?
