First Time Flecther Help

Hay guys, I've been cresting my own arrows but always took them to the so called pro shop to be flecthed. Well I stopped in to a sporting goods store yesterday and found an Arizona ez Fletcher for $9.99 only the cap was missing and a Jo-Jan Fletcher minus a clamp for $9.99 so I picked up both.

My question is what else do I need to start fletching (glue type etc., I picked up some blazers and yes I need a clamp grin.gif) and do you have any helpful hints or guides to help me along? Thank you for the help.

Re: First Time Flecther Help

Use arrow wraps for easy installation and cleaning. You will need some glue. I use Bohning Fletchtite Platinum but there are many other: Goattuff, Superglue. The Arizona Ez Fletch......you need to see if it is for Aluminum or Carbon shafts and if it is straight or helical. Be sure after you have fletched them on to put a dab of glue on the front and rear of the vanes to keep them from coming loose. With the Blazer vanes you are going to have to flech them in offset or Straight. You just can't hardly put a helical fletch on them because they are so tough. Have fun with it and experiment to see what works best for you.

Re: First Time Flecther Help

The Ez fletch is alum. straight fletch. The guy at the store said it would work for my GT 5575s?

Only thing I would suggest is make some sort of reference mark on your jig so you consistently put your fletch on the same distance from your nock point.

Good idea, I would have learned that the hard way. How do you clean your carbons, wipe w/ acetone or no? Thanks.

Re: First Time Flecther Help

I use a Jo Jan fletcher for my shafts and I shoot the 5575's. The Jo Jan works great with any shaft, aluminum or carbon. I'd get some emory cloth in about 400 grit, I just use this to rough the surface up, but since your cresting your arrow, nix that idea. Alcohol works great for cleaning the shafts before you fletch them, acetone will take your crestings off. I don't use super glue, it tends to react with some plastics and is more brittle in colder weather. Fleth-tite glue in the red and white tube is about the best on the market for fletchings. Scribing your jig is a good idea for consistant fletching alignment. Just be sure to re-set the arrow after each rotation on the base jig. It'll move from time to time on you if the knock are loose fitting in the V-notch. You'll get the hang of it in no time, just take your time and it'll all work out.
