PAbowhunter86
How many archers in here can or have split an arrow? I have been trying to but I can't seem to do so. I have been close, by close I mean I have taken fletching off and broken nocks but never split an arrow.
tedicast
Re: Splitting Arrows Why would you try to do that? I purposely don't shoot groups just to avoid it.
Chrud
Re: Splitting Arrows I did it once and don't plan to do it again. My arrows are probably $10 a piece or better...including the wrap and vane prices and so on. I won't be throwing $20 away again.

Tominator
Re: Splitting Arrows Yeah, I have one robinhood, totally on accident, kinda' . Seriously, last year I pulled out my bow for the first time after our season ended, which was June or July I think (no, I don't shoot all year, shame on me ) I set up my McKenzie, stepped off 20 yards and shot my first arrow. 12 ring, right behind the shoulder (luck?), so I nocked another one, aimed at the same spot, CLANK!, I winced, figured, "there's a cracked arrow." Shot my next two, all the arrows within 5" I'd say. Went down to pull them, and lo and behold, my second arrow split my first. I have pictures of it at home, I'll upload them tonight if I remember. Typically I don't aim for the same spot because that gets expensive, but I figured "first time this season, what are the odds?" Well, pretty good that day. I almost robinhooded one of Ohiobuck's arrows back in October I think it was. Man, he was angry. Cut his fletch I do believe.
vagobbln
Re: Splitting Arrows I pop a lot of knocks off but, like Tominator, my one and only "Robinhood" really was an accident. In a 3D tournament a couple of years ago, we got to a station that required two shots at an elk target from two different distances, about 35 and 45 yards. Well the rest is history. Talk about dumb luck! Sad thing was all the guys in my group were jumping up and down screaming "robinhood, robinhood"! I wasn't that excited since both had just missed the ten ring. Just to show how luck plays a factor. Our NWTF chapter sponsored a Women in the Outdoors event a couple of years ago. One seminar was archery. We had a young lady, who had never even shot a bow before, "robinhood" from about 15 yards after about 5 five shots.
Guest lucky_erickson
Re: Splitting Arrows I got 2 in the last couple month's. The goldtip pro hunters are only gonna be shot at 5 spots from now on!!! Too expensive!!!
Guest adamc
Re: Splitting Arrows I got 2 over the summer and decided i needed to start shooting one arrow at a target b/c it was getting way to expensive. Gold tips aren't very cheap.
rockefeller66
Re: Splitting Arrows I did it twice accidentally while seeing how close my groups were but it got expensive ruining arrows, nocks, and fletchings. Now I have 5 separate little quarter size dots spray painted on by "Black Hole". The Robin Hoods do look cool under my first buck and people at my dad's car dealership enjoy looking at them but twice is enough for me! AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Splitting Arrows I am with the majority on this thread, I try not to do it as I don't like to ruin arrows, never had a "Robin Hood" but have ruined a few nocks. I prefer to just shoot at different spots on my target!
arrow32
Re: Splitting Arrows Ive done it the first two shots with my new hoyt at here at the house last summer. And right its to costly to do that.
Nick
Re: Splitting Arrows Ive robin hooded 3 arrows. It was cool and I saved the first one. But it gets too expensive.
Doc
Re: Splitting Arrows A bunch of years ago, I got up to seven "robinhoods" in a fairly short time and the novelty wore off real quick. I now use an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper with four small bullseyes on it. That saves a whole bunch of money. Doc
Rhino
Re: Splitting Arrows After the 1st 2 robinhoods I quite shooting at the same spots when I practice at home. Too costly. Since then I've robinhooded 2 other arrows while shooting 3D targets at our camp and the arrows I robinhooded were frinds of mine. They haven't gotten even yet but they try when they get the chance. dg
Re: Splitting Arrows I've had several, but it's purely by accident! Shoot some CE CXL's with the cheap factory nocks. You'll get a robinhood pretty quick............

elkoholic
Re: Splitting Arrows Just clipping another arrow becomes a costly proposition so I no longer try to shoot groups. Even if you just clip a nock but it has no apparent damage, it may break apart upon release the next time and give some scary results. Damaged fletching and shafts do not shoot the same and replacement is costly. That being said, here is the result of my wife saying; "You never shoot at the same spot anymore, so how do I know you are shooting good". I do not much care for the decorations, but it makes the little lady happy.
