Guest ILclimber
Hey guys, I am currently using a buck knife with a skinner hook. I am possibly looking to get a new knife, just curious to see if there are any other brands you guys use and good or bad stories that go along with them. Any info would be great! tedicast
Re: Knives? For fiels dressing, I carry a Buck 110, and a Wyoming knife for unzipping the deer. For butchering I have a Vitronox boning knife that I really like. We have also been using skinning knife from Knives of Alaske. Great knives, hold an edge better then any knife I have ever used. They aren't cheap, but you definately get what you pay for.
JimPic
Re: Knives? I use a Buck 110 for dressing and skinning and a Gerber Wyoming-type for cutting it open. For butchering, most of that work goes to a 6" fillet knife.
elnor
Re: Knives? Gerber Gator II, folding, with gut hook. I also recently bought the Gerber pruning shears and Exchange-a-blade saw with wood and bone blades but haven't put them to the test yet. wtnhunt
Re: Knives? Favorite of all my knives for most general purposes with deer field dressing and skinning is my gerber gator with a non serrated blade. For butchering I primarily use a buck filet knife. EKYhunter
Re: Knives? Look at the Browning FDT (Field Dressing Tool). Very good knife which has three blades, drop point blade, saw blade, and a blade with a gut hook.
AaronS
Re: Knives? For field dressing I love my Browning FDT. For skinning and butchering it is very hard to beat a sharp filet knife.

hutchies
Re: Knives? I use the Kershaw that is interchangeable and also carry a Wyoming game knife. I used the game knife alone for years. I also have one of those cheap Remington sets for butchering. My wife surprised me with it. Not the best quailty but it gets the job done. RangerClay
Re: Knives? I use a Buck Woodsman BR for all of my gutting. I have used a 4" Rapala fillet knive to gut with as well and it worked great. Ranger

mrincker
Re: Knives? Hey buddy, I agree with tedicast Kinives of Alaska has a real sweet knife called the cub bear we use a lot. It a small knife whcih is what we like to use. Other wise we have a couple buck knives a hanfull of gerber which the buck knife hold a better edge tan the gerber but not as good as the cub bear. That also all depends on what angle you have then ground too. The Lansky diamond kit is great for that. But for all butchering we also use the victronix knives the boning knife and than a long straight blade for cutting jerky and various other things. Call my cell if you want any other info on them. See ya
