VtBowhunter
Re: Farewell Bus [ QUOTE ] Sooooo does this mean that Jerome is retiring? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, at the SuperBowl he hoisted the Lombardi, turned to Cowher and Dan Rooney and told them both he was officially retiring. dg
Re: Farewell Bus He was an awsome back for an awesome team. 5th leading rusher all-time. He didn't talk the "Me" trash like so many. He spoke intelligent english.

[/ QUOTE ] LOL, I can give ya that one, but the man's numbers make one of the best ever, and probably one of one 2 RB's that I can remember that was a great team player, and put the team first always.......the other was Walter Payton. iron buck
Re: Farewell Bus BEttis will be missed. Even in his current shape He was still one of the best down hill runners in the game. And as a person, Team leader & spokesman he was unrivaled in the leauge. A persoanl story I will always cherish is a meeting I had with Bettis about 4 or 5 years ago. I was with my daughter (about 9 years old at the time)at Dicks Sporting Goods in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.I was getting my fishing license. While there Jerome came in to but a license for himself. He was across the room & I pointed him out to my daughter but did not want to bother him. He saw my daughter looking his way, and on his own came over to talk to us & give her an autograph. Very polite. Very personable. She & I will always remember that. In this era where some sports heros veiw them selves as "above" the fans..........and either do not give autographs, or charge money for autographs..........BEttis was a refreshing personality. Backing up what he did on the field during the game, with true sportamanship off the field as well. He will be missed. Thank you Jerome! PAbowhunter4life
Re: Farewell Bus Man, being Black & Gold through and through, that picture is SAD to say the least. It's weird, but it seems like I can't remember a Steeler game where Bettis wasn't in the backfield. 5th leading rusher all time, will definitely be in the HOF very soon, and now he has retired a true champion, in his hometown to boot. The man deserves it for all he has done for not just Pittsburgh, but the game of football in general. It definitely won't be the same without him on the team, but as one door closes, another one opens. THANK YOU JEROME!!!!!!!!!

Guest psejake16
Re: Farewell Bus VT, it was actually pretty fun. I was sitting next to a hardcore Pats fan and a couple that was wearing Marino jerseys and Dolphin hats. There was alot of tension between the Pats fan and I but by the middle of the 1st q. we were telling storys back and forth. I met alot of new friends when I tailgated with the Seahawks fans before the game. Food was good, city was decent, people were great, all in all it wasnt bad. Next year will be way better when its in Miami and the Colts are in it.
VtBowhunter
Re: Farewell Bus Good luck with you team next year, and I mean that. I'll be pulling for my Steelers to repeat as they like to do, but I'm a football fan more then all else, so I'll enjoy watching all the good teams next year.....but none more then my World Champion Steelers. PAbowhunter4life
Re: Farewell Bus With all due respect to the Colts fans here, you guys are a SINKING ship now. Worrying about signing Wayne as opposed to keeping James???????? See how well the "Golden Boy" produces next year when the Colts become one dimensional and people tee off on them like Pittsburgh & San Diego did. If you guys wise up and keep James, then you'll be back in the "elite" group and in the playoffs again, but if they truly decide to give Peyton his way and keep Wayne over James, you'll be lucky to see a wild card birth IMO
James7xChamp3
Re: Farewell Bus It would be nice to keep this thread on the topic it was posted for. With that, a big farewell to a guy who gave it his all every step of the way and became a fan favorite with his efforts and big heart. He will surely be missed! Why would Polian put an 11m. franchise tag on James when we have a 1,000 yard 8 TD guy sitting in the bench? Rather than using up all of the cap space on a guy who cant finish in short yardage situations, we can use it to re-sign the #1 defense in the AFC. Freeneys gonna get a long term deal, Mathis will get a moderate deal, Mathis, Brock, Sanders, Harper, and Triplett will also get deals from the cap space saved from James. Im glad Polian is finally seeing how important defense is. btw I was refering to Dominic Rhodes who came in after James got injured and had a monster season considering the situation. Not to mention James Mungro on the bench who can run sprints.
