surreybigbuckhunter
i was just wondering what is the best bait for catching big common carp. My friends and i only fished three times for them with dry dough balls. we caught a 17 a 15 and a 10 pounder. we had about a 25 pounder on corn on 4 pound test but he spit the hook

Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: carp baits 1/2 lb cottonseed meal (available from the feed store), 1/2 box Wheaties, 1 bottle vanilla extract. Dump everything into a mixing bow and add a little water and stir. It should make a thick paste. If you can find some cattails, get the fuzzy ends off of them and add that to the mix. It makes it stay on the hook great. I use a small treble hook with the spring around the shank. And while you're at the feed store, pick up a bag or slab of cottonseed cake to throw out for chum. You'll be amazed at how many carp and catfish will show up. I carp fish this way in the Summer and it's not unusual to catch 300 - 400 lbs of fish in a single night. muggs
Re: carp baits [ QUOTE ] #8 olive wooly bugger..... Andy [/ QUOTE ] Carp do love fly presentations, I've had them take everything from crayfish to streamer patterns...other than that I'd suggest the flavored carp baits that look like paste. They work good. Or a nice heavy arrow.
bowhunten4life
Re: carp baits use a box of corn flakes, coconut flake, any kind of jello(cherry, strawberry, orange, lime, etc) you dont have to use vanilla and use water or red pop and if it is to watery you can use corn flakes or potato flakes to make it a thick dough ball. after you get it just right make a small dough ball and drop into a cup of water and see how long it will hold up before it falls apart.......good luck and catch one for me.....I am in Germany with the army so I have to miss fishing and hunting

DU_man_84
Re: carp baits i live on the fox river in illinois and i used to fish it for carp and cats off my dock when i didnt feel like leaving the house, all my life for carp the best bait i have ever used is a piece of a bread rolled into a ball just so it covers the bend and tip of the hook, really not the rest of the hook, over the years i have landed some big carp biggest being bout 30 pounds and a lot of 20s and so on, so if ya aint tried just plain old bread do it, and if ya get hungry you can eat adn its cheap, also if your gonna use bread keep the extra sealed, dont let it get hard and crumbly otherwise it wont stay on the hook as well keep it moist
