Guest fourtrax_300
hey I have a machine shop teacher who is very cool. he kokes around with us, teaches us alot, lets us go on food run during lunch and alot of other stuff. well he is an avid hunter and he has been wanting a smith & Wesson model 500 and of us (his students) are going to get him one for his birthday ! there will be around 100 of us chipping in. anyways how much does a model 500 run ? we dont have a dealer of them around here so i cant go look. and the internet said about $950. is that right ? were trying to fiquire out how much each person needs to chip in to buy the gun. thanks alot
popgun
Re: buying our shop teacher a gun ! I know your hearts are in the right place, and I'm sure he will appreciate the gift. I suggest you just get him a gift certificate from a reliable gun dealer. With the laws the way they are nowadays you all would be better off. You couldn't buy it, you couldn't bring it to school, even as a gift. You can't buy a gun for another person.etc. I'd hate to see all you good students get in any trouble at school with the "no tolerance policies". ($950.-$1100,) ....popgun

[/ QUOTE ] yes but i feel we own him something ! he is a wonderful teacher who teaches us alot about machining and welding. there is a local community collge that we went on a field trip to and their machine shop teacher over there told us that he can all tell the students from my town because we always know alot after going threw out high school machine shop class. our teacher Mr.Dunaway is also more than a machine shop teacher. he is a life teacher. if you have a problem with anything like family, firends or work related he will give you advice and everthing. sometimes he gives us advice on stuff without asking. he also teaches us business skills that we need. makes us do math problems without cacualtors ,paper or pincle so we'll be trained for on the site jobs. he gives us test on what the numbers on welding rods mean, what types of rods or wire you need to weld diffrent types of meal, makes us memorize fraction to decimals(ex 1/8 = .125) and stuff like that. not only that but he lets us know where there is machinest or welding work to be had,how much is pays and even has helped alot of students get jobs. so IMHO he deserves every bit of that pistol ! Guest Xen
Re: buying our shop teacher a gun ! well, you are right in the can't guy a gun for another person, but, you can buy a gun as a gift for somebody else... nice grey area there. the only real stipulation that the ATF has, is that you can't knowingly give a gun as a gift to somebody that can not legally possess it. Football doesnt' teach character, a good football coach, english teacher, band director, math teacher, chearleading sponser, band director or shop teacher does. It's not the game or class, it's the teacher who cares. It sounds like you've got one of those. Yes, I know I've got band director twice. LETMGROW
Re: buying our shop teacher a gun ! There are a lot more good teachers than bad by far. Unfortuneatly we seldom hear about the good, just the bad. They have a tough job in today's society. They are deserving of any credit they get. Congrats to you for giving that credit.
