AdvantageTimberLou
read this to find out why: http://www.nascar.com/2006/news/headlines/cup/02/12/jjohnson.tlabonte.qualifying/index.html I personally think they should, he has done this in the past, finding ways to alter the car and he always seems to weasel out of the suspension. He got caught cheating! I say impound the car and throw those bums out, its not like a one time deal, they have been caught in the past. Come on Knaus, can't you beat people on an equal playing field within the rules? Then you have that whiner of a driver that will defend your cheating antics. Whole team should be suspended from the 500, that would stop all this cheating. What do you think?
Master_Chief
Re: Knaus may face suspension I agree. Drop the hammer on them the first race. That will keep everyone in line for the rest of the year. I like the suspend for the race penalty.
VermontHunter
Re: Knaus may face suspension I think Chad is in for one big spanking on this one.... Alot of these violations seem to be very open, and Im still trying to figure out why NASCAR didn't catch these during inspection,, I can see Gordons and Burtons motors sliping through,, but NOT the rest of this stuff.... I think they need to start fineing and suspending officials,, unless it's NASCARS intent to have contraversey in their sport to get attention form the media and it's fans.... tedicast
Re: Knaus may face suspension Watching Kenny Wallace, and Jimmy spencer on Speed last night. They thought it was great that he tried to find an advantage. They both seemed to agree, that it isn't cheating untill you get caught. This attitude explains a lot of the stuff you see week to week. Stuff like Harvicks C.C. pulled a couple times last year. He got suspended, so I think you will see Knaus suspended too.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Knaus may face suspension I think they will make Knaus sit out a few races. He's not the only one to try something new to get an advantage.Teams have been trying to sneak by rules since the conception of NASCAR.I suppose in a way it is part of the sport, and I'm sure stuff like this will slip through inspection from time to time, just not at Daytona. They have way more time for inspections at the 500 than any other race,so I think more stuff will get noticed. Chrud
Re: Knaus may face suspension Knaus should be suspended, but he won't be. This is the 3rd time in less than a year that the 48 bunch has been caught with illegal parts. Still no punishment for any. Yet, Dale Jr gets 25 points and $10,000 for saying "crap" AFTER a race....which had NOTHING to do with the outcome of the race. NASCAR just being NASCAR. slugshooter
Re: Knaus may face suspension I haven't as of yet heard anything new on Burton or Gordon's engines, probably just the per-season rumor mill getting going. Chad Knaus on the other hand should get fined and/or suspended because yes, the car did pass pre-qualifying inspection, the part that modified the rear window and raised it was placed there after inspection. That was blatant and Chad knew better, if he hadn't, it would have been there before inspection and they would have caught it there. I'm thinking that may be why Gordon's car was in inspection so long after qualifying, because they had already caught Jimmy. As for pre-race and pre-qual, the compression on those cars are checked routinely throughout the weekend, they are put through inspection when they get to the track before they start practicing.
