Remington ammo = junk

I lost a nice deer due to cheep **** corelokts today, pulled the trigger and gun went snap. Just as I was about to wrap my new ruger around a tree I decided to look at the cartridge, good thing I didnt hit that tree. The primer on the cartridge was setting way to far in. The primer was just barely struck by the firing pin. Guys I have been a Remington fan for years but never again will I buy their cheap shells for anything serious like hunting.

5 point------ I have seen where the primer was not set in the pocket---so when the firing pin hit it---it set the primer in the pocket & didn't fire.

Strut----I've had the exact opposite. I've had Winchester not fire when the primer was dented. Never a problem with Remington or Federal. Fact is I like the "Core-lokt" bullet for my hunting.

I've also witnessed where "BIG" money was lost at a trap shoot. The guy was shooting new Winchester "AA" silver trap loads in a registered shoot. He had a "DUD" shell----got to another chance but his concentratation was broken & he lost the bird. It cost him several thousand bucks because of the lost bird.

Duds happen-----nothing is perfect.

Been talking to some of the guys at work that hunt, when I told them what happend more than 50 percent of the replys were ( I'll bet you was using remington ammo) sounds like remington might of had more than one dud huh.

Re: Remington ammo = junk

i've shot it seems like every factory load out there in one caliber or another and never had a problem with them not firing but my first choice is winchester and usually my 2nd is hornady so if your not happy with one of their shells you have many moreof them t try out and make it happen for you. i too would wonder about your firing pin and wonder if maybe you have a problem with your pin. wouldn't hurt to have it checked out just to be safe

Re: Remington ammo = junk

Remington ammo is just fine. I have shot 100s if not 1000s of rounds of the core lokts with out any problems what so ever.

If I had a rifle where the problem was consistant......I'd have a gun smith check it out. Sounds like a problem with the firing pin as others have said.

I have switched from premium stuff to all core lockt bullets for my deer hunting. Better bargain. 100% reliable. I can practice more. I have never had a lost deer due to teh bullet. You can not ask for more than that. smirk.gif

Re: Remington ammo = junk

That is why I check every cartridge after I buy them. It's no different than archery equipment, give everything a good check before using it. I had a primer missing from a Federal cartridge while checking it over. They sent me a box free. It only takes a couple minutes to check out the ammo. Give it a try next time and hopefully you won't hear a click when the trigger is squeezed on that big buck!

I'm also a Rem corelokt user for many years. I certainly wouldn't call them junk because of your problem. They have probably killed more critters through the years than any other brand. I would check that your firing pin isn't gunked up or some other problem. I'm not saying that there couldn't be a bad shell out there, I'm sure it happens. crazy.gif
