bowhnter16
I was wanting to pick up the new switchback, but I thought I would ask what kind of speeds you guys are getting out of them. My draw is 28... what do you think I can expect to get out of it. Thanks for the help

Master_Chief
Re: Switchback XT speed I test shot an XT and a legacy. With my 366 gr arrow, 28.5" draw set @60 pounds the XT shot 262 and the Legacy shot 286. So up the poundage some, you lose a little for the 28" draw and not knowing you arrow weight I can't tell for sure but you should be in the 262-268 ballpark. Hillbilly
Re: Switchback XT speed [ QUOTE ] There's more to a bow than speed. [/ QUOTE ] I rather have a smooth and silent bow if anything at all.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Switchback XT speed They are certainly fast enough. I just got one last Friday, but have yet to crono it. Shooting 29" draw, 65#, and a 405 gr arrow, I'm guessing it will be in the 270's. All I know is that it is deceiving at how fast one of these bows shoot. They are so smoot and quiet, you feel like it is not that fast when you shoot it. Raw speed is fine, but it is way over rated for hunting purposes. I'll take the smooth draw cycle and quiet shot any day over the speed.
preacherman
Re: Switchback XT speed I chronoed mine at Christmas.......29 inch draw length, easton axis 400 st arrow, blazer vanes w/wraps and 125 grain field tip, nothing on the string except a loop pulling 70 pounds and mine shot 265 fps. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe but when you have a quiet, fast, accurate bow like the Switchback, Trycon, or Illusion(many others included) It just give it the full package. rockefeller66
Re: Switchback XT speed I guess I can't answer your speed question, sorry! BUT when hunting whitetails speed isn't the biggest factor when choosing a bow, I would also focus on how quite a bow is, if I remember right I read somewhere that it would take a bow shooting around 700 feet per second to keep up with the reaction of a whitetail deer, just my 2 cents! Those Matthews are pretty nice bows though!
Guest deadeye270
Re: Switchback XT speed I would guess with an avg weight arrow you will be about 280.

Fullfan
Re: Switchback XT speed Just shot my Xt through the chrono. 28" draw, 65 lbs, 374 gn Goldtip 5575. I got 250 fps. This thing is slllllooooooowwww.
rossman
Re: Switchback XT speed true, speed isn't everything. But, if you have a smooth, quiet and fast bow. It is better than having just a smooth and quiet bow. If you can accomplish smoothness with minimal sound and have speeds near 280 ft/sec then you just bough a switchback!!!!! If I was in the market again this year I would buy the regular switchback, not the XT, LD or any other versions. Smooth, quiet fast and forgiving!!!! --rossman
Fullfan
Re: Switchback XT speed I would be very happy with a 374 gn arrow @ 280 fps. But I am 30 fps slower than that..
Guest antlers21
Re: Switchback XT speed 28 1/2" draw with a 320 gr. arrow and my average speed over 10 shots was 282 fps. I am happy with that. It is a little slower than my old switchback but I am still happy with the accuracy and smoothness I have. Oh ya, you will lose some speed if you shoot it with factory strings on them, I dont like the barracuda string or any other string that zebra makes. I have bought 3 mathews bows and the first thing I do is lose the string.

bowana
Re: Switchback XT speed Awesome Bow! Played with one at the ATA Show. It was not 2 weeks after that I traded in my LX. I have a 28 1/2" draw. Still shooting around 300. Its really smooth. I really like the limb design. Easy to work around limbs in a stand. Are you sure the Chrono is correct?
Fullfan
Re: Switchback XT speed Scotty, I have discovered the cam is about 1/8 " off. And I only have one brass nock and the peep on the string.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Switchback XT speed It seems that a lot of them leaving Mathews are not to spec. I went through mine this weekend. ATA was good, B.H. was good, and cam timing was good. But, the idler was not set right. I was getting horible tears in paper. I set the idler up so that it is straight at full draw, adjusted my center shot, and was shooting bare shaft bullet holes within minutes. I'm going to crono mine this weekend. If you want to know how to set up one of these bows with the cable guard rollers, check out the Mathews forums.
