bigmoss
I am looking at finally having enough money to go on a hunt with a good outfitter. Most of the ones I have looked at say tip to the guide not included. I am just wondering how that works, what is a proper amount that they would not be insulted with ? Is there a scale ? Thanks
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Tipping your Guide ? You're not obligated to tip them, but I certainly would if they gave me a good hunt. Just like at a resturant, adjust the tip to the price of the hunt, the quality of service and the length of the trip. Of course if you kill a trophy animal, that needs to be factor too. A good baseline might be something like $25 - $30 per day.
rossman
Re: Tipping your Guide ? Depends on the hunt. If he is only bringing you to pre set up stands and having you sit. A lower tip would be expected. Probably, 100 - 200 a week. If you were going on a wilderness hunt, say for elk or moose, with horses, then a larger tip would be expected. Probably, like 300 - 400 a week. And if he gets you a shot at a good animal, then you will need to give a little extra. I say shot, because it is up to the hunter to close the deal. If you miss, you should tip the same as if you were to hit the animal on the mark and collect on your trophy. Never tip the owner of the guide service, only the guide and cook. The owners should not expect a tip!!!
