Surgery today

Re: Surgery today

Well guys I'm back! Surgery went well and yesterday was a blur but I feel so-so today. I couldn't sleep all night last night, maybe got 2 1/2 hours total of broken sleep. I am typing with one hand so I doubt I'll break 10G in the next three weeks. That would be Ryan's speed at 100 posts a day!! I did get a bit of bad news, the doctor found a rotator cuff tear that was about 40% through the cuff. He contemplated cutting it the rest of the way and reattaching it back together (he said that is a standard procedure if the tear ha been 50% or more), but left it alone. He said the bone spur that he had removed was very large and had basically started "sawing" through the rotator cuff over the last years time and he suspects the other one is probably doing the same. He said we will discuss that in the future as that one only gives me a tiny bit of pain and I had always shrugged it off as "due to sports". We'll wait and see. Thanks everyone and Happy Birthday Ruth!

Re: Surgery today

Swampie,

Keep ice on it and make sure to keep yourself up and walking....you don't want blood clots to form. Buddy's brother had it on his right arm so he couldn't work the footrest on the recliner....kept his legs bent after the surgery for two days. Stood up to walk to the bathroom, threw a cot to the lung, and took a header face first into tile. Broke his jaw at both joints, broke his nose, knocked out a couple teeth, and had a brain bleed.

I found sleeping in a recliner with pillows supporting the arm was the best for me (legs OUT laugh.gif) and keep ice on it as long as you can stand it. Don't be a dude, take the pain pills. A tensed up shoulder because it hurts won't heal as fast and will hurt longer. Take the Percocet Peacetrain! laugh.gif

I had the same exact thing...bone spur almost causing a significant tear. That was December a year ago and I am back 100%. Do your PT religiously and then some it will determine your final range of motion and strength.

Good luck,

New
