Born2Hunt
DOES ANYONE PLANT CORN AND SOY BEANS IN ONE PLOT TOGETHER? IF SO WHAT KIND OF RESULTS DO YOU GET.
dogdoc
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS Actually one food plot company just released a new blend this year that contains both roundup ready (RR) soybeans and RR corn. I have planted the two together but with other seeds also. soybeans--great spring summer forage corn--high carb seed and highly attractive. kind of a neat theory if you use the RR variety---and if not over harvested could be a year round food plot with easy weed control todd
Guest generallee
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS Biologic has the RR corn and soybean combo, looks like good stuff to me
Born2Hunt
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS I saw Biologic now has this that is why I am interested in it. It is a very good concept that should work. We are planting 5 acres of corn this year for cover why not add som soy bean also. It sounds good to me. Tominator
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS Another good thing about it is the fact that corn is a heavy nitrogen user, and beans, being a legume, produce nitrogen naturally in their roots, ergo, the beans feed the corn while growing. I don't know about it being a year round food source though. I thought all varieties of corn and beans were annuals.

They can feed on the soybean forage in the spring and summer, the actual soybeans in the fall, and the corn (seed) all fall and winter---thus (if the plot is large enough) then they can feed on the plot all year! todd
Born2Hunt
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS The plot will end up being 5 1/2 acres plus we will have 3 more acres of other food plots as well.

Thought you had some kind of supernaturalperennial corn down there in the south.
rutbuster
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS There is a two acre plot not to far from where I live on public ground,,, It has corn planted around the outside and beans inside the corn got attacked first then the beans,,, but earlier last fall the beans were hit hard that were planted around a 160 acre arrigation pivet of spuds, the headlands were planted into soybeans,, and the whitetail went nuts for them... LETMGROW
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS In some publications I have seen corn refered to as a one month wonder. I wonder which month? As I travel around, nearly every deer I see is in a cornfield. Even if the corn has been cut almost to the ground, the deer seem to be there. This apparently holds true for turkeys also! Guest cowpoke
Re: CORN AND SOY BEANS Anybody know what the ratio of corn to soybeans is in the mix? If the corn is at a lower population than what we plant for regualr cornproduction, say maybe half, it would allow for the beans to receive sunlight. Also the beans won't fix a real big amount of nitrogen for the corn, but it may help a little.
