Who's had the best year?

I got some stats for the top 5 in the chase I've got avg. start, avg. finish, and laps completed.

Busch has an avg. start of 15.4, finish of 12.6 and 94.8% laps completed.

Johnson has a 9.6 start and 12.3 finish with 93.3%

Gordon has a 9.7 start and 11.6 finish and 93.9%

Junior has 10.8 start and 11.8 finish and 98.4%

Martin has 15.3 start and 13.8 finish and 96.6%

If going by this then Jeff shoud be first, followed by Junior, Jimmy, Busch and Martin. Wouldn't it be interesting that by some unseen force, that it actually came out that way. I mean, it is racing, anything could happen, The top 4 could all blow their engines and Martin come out on top. You just never know, as unlikely as the scenarios get, you just never know. I can't believe Junior has completed 98.4 % of laps, thats almost unheard of.

Oh, you don't know what you are talking about. Qualifying, to me anyways, isn't all that big of a stat. It helps to be up front, but it's not a life or death situtation.

In my opinion, Junior has had the better year. If he hadn't gotten hurt at Sonoma (sports car), he would have a higher finishing average. That is two 27+ place finishes. He was 6th at the first Pocono and 3rd at the second Loudon. It's been real close. As much as I don't like Gordon, it would be a shame for he or Junior not to win the championship. If Kurt Busch wins, he doesn't deserve it. I'm hoping if Junior can't win that Jimmie does.

interesting stats for sure! I would agree that start is not a big deal in this comparison, but by finish and laps completed i think you do get a clear picture of who has raced best. Unfortunately Junior failed to complete all the laps two races in a row and finished way back. Like any sport you can be the best all season long, but crunch time can change everything.
