KirkV
Well it got colder than the hubs of hades last night and the pond froze over with skim ice again! I was having coffe this morning ,watching the outdoor channel, when i looked out the rear window and spoted one of the resident red foxes trotting across the pond. I hollered to the wife as she has not seen them yet and she was astounded with the beauty of it. Then the mate came out and the first sat out in the middle of the pond to watch what it was going to do lol. My poor old Lab was ready to jump out of the window to try to go "play" with them. I am amazed how the ice being so thin could support the weight of them as the trotted along. I know they do not weigh hardly anything but still amazing and a neat morning. Shaun_300
Re: Foxy morning That's really cool Kirk! It's amazing how strong ice is. A 1/2" ice can hold a person. I wouldn't advise it though. We usually wait until there's 6 inches before we go too far on it.

KirkV
Re: Foxy morning The wife would kill me if I tried to shoot them out the back door lol. We were not married a year and I was still trapping when I spotted the coon that had been raiding my squirrell corn out the back door. I promptly loaded the gun and headed toward the slider. I was asked where do you think you are going? Then when I told her of my plans...mistake number one, she ran to the back door and screamed RUN COON RUN. Well after a few tense moments and a few colorful metaphors we agreed I would not shoot out of the house, only on the trapline or while hunting. Tominator
Re: Foxy morning [ QUOTE ] we agreed I would not shoot out of the house, only on the trapline or while hunting. [/ QUOTE ] My wife still hasn't asked me to do that yet. So far I have 2 cats, countless blackbirds, 1 coon, and 1 skunk all from inside the house. I get the OK because all of the above mentioned varmints either terrorize or steal her outside cat's food. I wonder if she knows I'm baiting them????? j/k--don't jump me. lol. slugshooter
Re: Foxy morning Back when squirrel season was still in here, I came close to popping one out the back door with my .22. I have a bunch of woods behind the house but I rarely see any squirrels, which I think is odd given there are deer, bears, and rabbits back there and who knows what else. Come to think of it I haven't seen a rabbit in awhile. Anyhoo, I looked out the window in the back door and plain as day there was a squirrel about 20 feet back there about 10 feet into the woodline. I scurried to the room to get my .22 and by the time I got back he was gone. I guess I should start keeping it by the back door.

RangerClay
Re: Foxy morning Heck, my wife lets me I shoot critters off the porch all the time. I just have to give a "fire in hole" so I don't startle everyone. Ranger
Squirrelhunter91
Re: Foxy morning Yep.. I've killed a squirrel or two out the window as well.. Not to mention a groundhog with the bow.. After a while of shooting out the window, little chunks are missing out of the window sill..

Reloader
Re: Foxy morning From the window I just watch too. When I was a kid though we kept a 22 pelet gun near the back door to shoot the ground squirels that were digging up our yard. We werent allowed to shoot tree squirels or birds or anything else but the ground squirels and rats were fair game for anyone my Dad had "cleared" to use the gun... AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Foxy morning yeah seeing a fox is a rare but awesome occurence. Most times when you see one you have to take a double take as its pretty rare. They are so neat to look at and as quick as you see them they seem to disappear into thin air! LOL!! Congrats on the foxy morning!

The reds have been on a steady increase here over the past 5 years or so.
