Bad Bews For Oklahoma...

I was told today that if it's still real dry here and we are still under a burn ban come March 6th that they are going to cancel our spring turkey season here due to a high risk of fires being caused from a shotgun... confused.gif

Well needless to say that this really bums me out... frown.gif

Has anyone else in Oklahoma heard anything about this...

Todd for what I understand that it will be canceled completely...

A guy I know said that the local Game Warden told him this...

Mike and I said something to him about us hunting with our bows and he said that they weren't going to issue tags for the spring hunt if they cancel it...

What!! shocked.gif I've never heard of a fire being started from a shotgun blast fired at a turkey before. Heck, you have a better chance of starting a fire from the heat of your muffler while parked in a field.

Better start praying for rain and just in case start the indian rain dances too. I'll share the prayer part with y'all but I'm not going to do any rain dances down here. We've already had a lot of the wet stuff already. Sure wish I could send some in your direction.

Re: Bad Bews For Oklahoma...

Well, a lot of Ok got rain/sleet/snow this weekend, hopefully that will help. I've been rain dancing for about 3 months, neighbors been having the police check on me for all the pow wow noise! LOL We got a start this weekend, need a lot more though!

Never heard of a fire starting with a shotgun blast!

I have lifetime's too, what are they going to do about that?

I can't see them cancelling the turkey season for fires from a gun. The only thing I can see them cancelling is the control burns that they do in the WMA's every year in early march. Maybe that is what they were talking about cancelling.

Got a reply from ODWC, "Jason, thanks for your concern with the upcoming turkey season. At this time, there are no plans by the ODWC to close the turkey season due to the dry conditions or for any other reason. Of course, we always encourage the sportsmen and women of our state to use common sense and safe practices when enjoying the outdoors.

Have a great turkey season!

Paul

Heck, you can't even get a small puddle of gasoline to ignite from a muzzle blast, despite what you see on TV.

I'll take your word on that. Definitely one of those things that should have the “don’t try this at home boys and girls, only performed by professionals” note stamped on it. grin.gif

Fires caused by shotguns??? confused.gif

Now I have heard it all.....How about fires caused by hikers tossing out their cigarette butts? Campers not properly managing their campfires? Picnicers not putting out their BBQ grills properly? Vehicles backfiring?

Sounds like a lame excuse to me. If they do that then they need to cancel ALL use of the forest. No hikers, picnicing, bird watching, camping....nothing.

The mere presence of humans in the woods is a fire threat if the woods are so dry that a shotgun can start a fire.
