arrow32
Im wondering since i dont have the time or the money right now to get a dog to train for rabbit hunting if it would work to walk threw fields hitting the big piles of weeds and things to get one? What do you say?
Tominator
Re: A question?? Oh yeah. Having a beagle to hunt bunnies is a bonus, but totally not necessary. Bunnies like thick brambles, fencelines, blowdowns, brushpiles, things like that. Take a walk and kick a few bushes, you never know!

RangerClay
Re: A question?? Howdy Pard! That's the only way I have hunted rabbits for the past 25+ years. I'm not familiar with W. Virginia but here in NY we focus in the berry briars and thorn apple groves. Another good place to hunt rabbits are Christmas tree farms (after Christmas of course). I suggest you get out and walk around. When you find the rabbits make note of your surroundings, what kind of cover are the rabbits using. Then search for those surroundings in your area. I've gotten pretty good at spotting a rabbit thicket when I'm driving down the road. I don't know how old you are but turn off the DVD and keep your eyes open when you drive or ride around. One more thing. This time of year be sure to get there on bright sunny days. Rabbits like to get out and sun themselves while they feed in the winter. I wish you all the best. Our rabbit hunting here in NY isn't what it used to be since we started having a rise in our coyote population. We used to limit out when I was in high school but now you are lucky to see one or two all day. Good luck! Ranger

Guest lovinbowhuntin247365
Re: A question?? yea ... definitely hunt the swamps and brush ... get a bunch of guys together, and have some kick through it all, and post a couple guys at the end of the brush and wait for your rabbit! it works like dogs do, jsut minus the circling part ... but yea, if youve got an open field with a lot of brushpiles and things, definitely take a walk through the field and kick every single brush pile, and have the gun ready ... there could be 3 or 4 rabbits holed up in one pile!! brownie65
Re: A question?? kick the piles until you are sure there aren't any rabbits in them & then kick them some more. Sometimes they sit real tight. Many a time I have swore that a pile should have a rabbit in it,kick the pile & kick it some more but nothing, then just when you think there can't be a rabbit in there one will come flying out.
